  • Conundrum: Wow, with all the rain I've been in as well as flooding in the X on Fat Tire, I have a new issue. Set light blinking rapidly and goes away after restarting the engine. I did a little research and I guess the cruise actuator can get nasty and seems plausible since I went through a puddle on purpose on the right hand side and that made the set light for cruise start flashing again. I'll check it out after the rain stops. lol Have fun and be safe out there everyone.

BLM vs STL
« on: January 24, 2013, 10:17:32 AM »
What is the difference between BLM land and State Trust land?

Anyone know a good resource on this?

The reason I ask is when going backroad exploring and camping I want to be more informed as to where is kosher to be and where isnt... and where can i just pitch a tent and set up camp and where can i not?

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) lands are managed Federally, and are open for recreation / camping without any permits (unless otherwise posted).  There are some restrictions (length of stay, distance from watering holes, Wilderness areas, etc.).  For more information, check out this link:  http://www.blm.gov

The Phoenix BLM office is located at 21605 N 7th Ave, Phoenix, AZ  85027-2929 (7th Ave and Deer Valley Rd)

The Arizona State Trust Land (STL) is managed by the State of Arizona.  These lands require a permit to recreate / camp on.  For more information, check out this link:  http://www.azland.gov/programs/natural/recreation_permit.htm

The Arizona State Land Department office is located in downtown Phoenix at 1616 W. Adams, Phoenix, AZ 85007

BLM allows shooting.

State Trust Land does not.  The only time you can legally discharge a firearm on State Trust Land is when you are hunting something that is "in season".

If you choose to recreate (including driving) on State Trust Land using your fishing/hunting license as a permit, you have to be able to prove that you are actually going hunting or fishing.  They may ask to see your fishing equipment.  They may ask you what you are hunting...be sure to tell them something that is in season.  You can also be "scouting" for an upcoming hunt, but you may be asked additional questions.

Personally, I purchase the $25 STL permit and carry it with me.  That way I don't have to worry about what is in season / what is not.  I don't have to bring any hunting / fishing equipment with me when I offroad.  I've met up with very few BLM / AZ Game and Fish folks out on the trails, but they are out there.

Thanks for the info.  Honestly I think AZ does a good job managing lang, game, and fish.  So I dont really mind giving them the extra cash.
