  • downs44: Got an 06 that just went through SMOD. Got everything replaced. Now my low oil pressure light is flickering on after the engine warms up and the truck is at idle. Doing some digging on the forums it looks like a common problem is the rear timing cover gallery gasket leaking and causes the symptoms. Looks like a 15 hour or so repair for a $50 part. Was wondering if anyone else has had this issue and any words of advise. To save some dialogue, the oil pressure sensor is about a year old and I changed the oil and filter after i noticed the light and that did not fix the issue.

Pinchel's 2004 Xterra
« on: August 11, 2013, 09:22:48 AM »
So I guess this will be a good start.

So I went back and checked all our repair records because I could not remember what we did.

Done:
Sway Away HD Torsion
Swapped head unti for JVC w/ USB & AUX support
Shrockworks Rear Bumper/Carrier w/custom corners
15s with Cooper Discoverer STT 31x10.5x15
Cooper Discoverer STT Pros 32x11.5x15
Mossy Oak Steering cover (Does almost nothing for the heat where the rubber is)
Head Gasket
Replaced power steering hose
Starter replaced
Fan Clutch
PML - AC Shackles? I forget which maybe 4x4parts
New Thermostat & larger radiator
Aux Tranny Cooler
Removed Front sway bar bushings & endlinks
Replaced all shocks Rear 5125 Bilstein & Front 4600 Bilstein
Energy Suspension Ultra Low profile bump UCA stops
Replaced OEM horn with a WOLO horn
IAB
Upgraded UCAs
Cam bolts
Shocks
PML
Radiator & hoses
Thermostat
New bigger tires
Aux Tranny Oil Cooler & fan
Knock Sensor Relocation
20" LED

Needs:
Possibly a new Power Steering Pump
Steering Gear Box
Water Pump

Front and Rear Suspension:
Steering stabilizer
Belts including Timing Belt/chain

Not the greatest picture, I'll get a better one later. This was with it first on. I still had some wiring to do and tweaking. It currently sags on the left. And the corners are setup for a 2" lift so that needs modifying.

First view of the new backside.

The bumper.

Swapped the 17s for 15s and new rubbers 31x10.5x15 Cooper Discoverer STT, now we can do some muddin'!

After PML (just the rear)

Not sure this is needed but here is my cb setup.

It would not start for me this morning. So instead of trying to start it we had it towed thinking when it arrived to Firestone they would get the same thing, nope it started for them and they tried starting it over 60 times and it didn't fail once yet this morning it failed on me 3 times and didn't start for at least 12 or more key turns.

So they had no clue, but I'm thinking maybe it's the ignition switch. I don't know cuz I've never had an ignition go out. Do they do that?

try replacing your battery terminals, or at least inspecting them and making sure they aren't loose.

any update with the starter?

Starter checked out fine, the X got the shop and it worked all day. Weird it has not had an issue since that day. Should I be suspicious?! I am a little. I thought of the battery terminals and had checked them the day before when I topped the fluids and changed the oil, but that was the day before it went up on the flatbed. Without tearing up the console or steering column I'm not sure, it's possible it could be short, but I hate electrical intermittent issues.

We'll wait till it happens again.

Work done! No CELs, which is good because there weren't any before. :) No leaks. Just can't tell if it is helping, although the engine seems to be running not as rough now. I did not add any tranny fluid, which is weird. Some came out, plus whatever amount was in the old radiator is still there. I checked the dipstick cold and hot and seems ok.

Got the radiator for the S/C Xterra so it was 1-7/16" thick. I think I could have save a few bucks by getting it at Radiator Express versus ordering it from Performance Radiator but I didn't have to worry about driving to get it.

Old radiator

dirty as hell, and I sprayed it down sometime ago

New and clean

Replaced the Thermositor (?) in hopes it would help with the a/c but no go as far as I can tell. It was worth a try, it was like $20 ish.

So I'm guessing the condenser or the compressor will need replacing. I'll get to it maybe.

If anyone needs a similar piece for a 2005+ I have the part. They gave me the wrong one initially a few months ago. I never returned it.

Redid the headliner, apparently people may learn from my mistakes. If yours has the the center piece with netting do not touch it until you get the whole headliner out and ready to prep it. It requires some precise removal technique from the backside. Needless to say, mine is not going back up. It was missing the cover piece for a few years now and pretty much worthless anyways. I could put it back up with some sort of genius rigging but easier to leave it off.

New headliner is up. Cb and antenna installed. I'll need to probably do a quick disconnect setup on the cb but it's good where it is. A little feedback but it works, I'll figure that out later.😨

Picked up a new roof rack from Whattha can't wait to put that on.

I'll post pics later.
