Title: State Land use Permit
Post by: Hammer (Avi) on February 25, 2013, 07:34:49 PM
Here (https://land.az.gov/natural-resources/recreational-permits) is the place to get your AZ land use permit.  You are responsible for your own and AZXC often camps or wheels in places were these are required.  They only accept cash, checks, or money orders, and you are sending in a form.  So unless you want to wait in line at the office for a last minute permit, now is the time to fill out and pay the fee.

You mean we don't have to wait in line for 12 hours at a state office? Score!

It's about 2 min to get a permit at the office downtown.  I got people all the permits last time and it was quick.  This was the most efficient government office I have ever been in!

I bumped this thread as a reminder, hammer has provided the link to get your state trust land permit.  I need to renew mine as it expires next week and I am planning another romp through east side of table mesa.  It may seem like a hassle but it is well worth the piece of mind of not paying any big fines or bringing negative attention to the club on group events.

Had to go downtown today to get some emissions certificates for work today. Realized I was two blocks from the Land Department building. My permit expired two months ago. I am now compliant for another year.

I think Avi was referring to the URL.

I went to the office earlier this year (March or April), and the process for purchasing a permit at the counter was no different from last year.

I picked up one a couple of weeks ago too, no wait as always. Im still not 100% how the family permit works since they give you two hang tags. What if I have 4 adults in each car?

FYI, first time in my life last year I actually knew someone who received a trespassing ticket for not having one. Apparently its becoming more enforced than in the past, and aparently some places have checkpoints for the permit. This year was the first time I had ever seen a STL permit required sign too, where previously there was no signs in the past.

The permit is so the car not the occupants. They do the family deal in case you have to cars.
Also to run some trails you have to have a permit. That's why I got one a few years back. In the last year everything around the White Tanks and some area around lake pleasant has gone to STL. Total bummer too. They are trying to keep people out of these areas.

I talked to a ranger at a car wash few weeks ago regarding the permits....

Apparently they have approached a few companies to come up with a "bar code decal" solution, where a unique decal is generated with a bar code that a ranger can scan to verify if indeed you did pay for the permit instead of the current paper tags.

The area behind lake pleasant according to him is due to people trying to avoid paying the $6 a day tag so they think going around is free and fine. He said in the last few years they have seen an increase in small cars in that area that get stuck and abandoned even stolen cars stripped and dumped, which they have to pay outside companies to recover.

He also stated there are numerous new signs stating a permit is required in that area, but I have not seen any obvious ones except the one at the staging grounds.

So it's based on vehicle, not persons? Interesting. Ok, well I have been meaning to get one. I just keep forgetting.

Also, what is the other permit out there? I thought there was one for another land access but was free by requesting it. Or was I dreaming?

There are other areas where you need to check in with the Ranger's station.  For example, to run Bulldog Canyon out in Mesa, you'll need a permit from the US Forest Service and the corresponding gate code (both free).

Went down there today to renew my permit.  Good News!  They will begin accepting online applications and payments in April 2016 (one week away).
