Title: Anyone needing stock tires, and rims?
Post by: Jo-BOB on April 04, 2013, 07:24:00 PM
Im looking to get 32" maybe 33" tires for my X. This next Mod day ill be adding 1.5"-2" of lift, So if I can I'd Like to improve my tire height also.

I've got a 2005 xterra se model. It has the stock rims, with BRAND new BFG tires. I have had them on for a week now. So maybe 100 miles on them 200 at most. I got them at discount tire, with a 50,000 mile warranty which is transferable.

Let me know what you have and we can work something out!!

Why not just go get new tires at discount and trade those in?  33" tires on a gen 2 or bust!

I had tires from Discount on my X for a week and hated them (Falken Rocky Mountains) I called Discount and told them they weren't the tire for me so he said no problem, come in and we will swap them for something different. They gave me full purchase price back towards the purchase of my Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs, so essentially a return, go in there and do the same thing, but do it now so you don't wait to long and put to many miles on your current tires. Go to 285's (33's) do the melt mod and you will be happier for sure.

Discount's customer service is great and should work with you getting bigger tires and what you want.

I didn't think that would be an option since they are considered "used" now. Do you know if I'm still able to take them in and exchange them?

I was thinking 32's... how big of difference is there with mpgs from 31s to 32s and 33s?

1-2 mpg unless you don't care how much you mash the gas then who cares.  FYI once you start modding the x and changing things your mpg will suffer huge!

You can return them like I said above, but do it sooner rather than later, for sure. Don't be foolish, go 33's, you wont regret it.

And as the saying goes with the X, its a SUV who cares about mpg's! lol

285/75/16

And you gotta decide what you'll be doing to the truck.  I run two sets and only Firestone but that's me.  Sunny runs Goodyear, others run other stuff.

Yeah 285 is the 33, my Wrangler Duratrac's is a good AT with an agressive tread design, BFG AT's are very popular, KM2's or MTR's if you want a Mud Terrain, and the list goes on...

Just don't get a wimpy Falken Rocky Mountain AT like I did if your gonna wheel it also, but if its just a highway X than they would work.

If I were you show up to a mod day and see what people have and then decide.

You'll see a bunch of different options!

how do your 33's handle on the highway. I do a decent amount of driving on the freeway, and Im driving to washington this summer so i want to make sure I have a good handle on the freeway.

I'm going to get the OEM leaf packs (suppose to give 1.5"-2.5" lift) in the rear, and OEM coilovers in the front (1.5"-2" lift) in the front.

So... will 32's be a better option if I'm on the freeway a little more with moderate offroading

and will 33's fit on a stock suspension? if they dont, can I make it to mod day and not have any serious damage?

I'm worried that if I wait that long, discount tire wont let me return them. How long do you think I can wait to trade them in and get something else?

Not that long, I would call the store you got them from tomorrow and explain that you don't like the current tires and you need to get 285's and make sure they will do it, they did it for me at Country Club and Baseline store but I was exactly a week out, don't wait long.

33's will fit no problem, and honestly I would get Duratracs and/or BFG AT's both a great highway tire with offroad capability, best of both worlds. Only thing you have to do with 33's is a melt mod which is easy and can wait until mod day to be done you will have slight rubbing but no major damage at all.

Ya I was going to stop by tomorrow and see what they said. Will 33's fit a stock x and not rub or cause any damage?

33's will rub slightly, all you need to do is get a heat gun and heat up where they rub plastic fender liner and push that plastic back while it is heated up, they will mold that way and no more rubbing, literally takes 20-30 minutes. Discount may say they don't recommend 33's but trust us, they fit great, half the guys on here have them with the melt mod and have zero issues.

would i be able to make it to mod day without doing the melt mod? I'm get my leaf springs and coilovers installed on mod day. I'm a college student that lives on campus from out of state, so tools and a good working place is not something I have right now.

Yes you should be fine, you will sound goofy until then with the slight rubbing but its just rubbing the plastic fender liner and shouldn't be any damage, mainly will only rub when you turn 3/4 to full lock, try to turn wider for 2 weeks.

I told Discount that the tires I had felt really loose and squishy on the road and unsafe while turning and I wanted to get a better tire that's stronger and bigger, when I mentioned I wanted to go with Duratracs he was like, oh yeah a much better tire than the ones you got for sure, So just feed them some BS and they should do it, like I said there customer service is normally really good, my dad has returned tires after a week there as well.

How big of a difference will I see and feel between 32's and 33's?
Title: Re: Anyone needing stock tires, and rims?
Post by: sunny1881 on April 04, 2013, 11:14:03 PM
Feel, there will really be no difference. The 33 is obviously bigger, taller, etc... with a lift 33 will fill the wheel well better, look good and give you a slightly taller stance, with a 31 and 32 you may be disappointed because the higher you go with lift the smaller they will look. With your setup OME 1.5"-2" of lift and 33's that will be a perfect fit, I ran that for about 6 months until I went higher on the lift. Don't let the melt mod scare you away, 33's is the way to go and the melt mod is a piece of cake, 11Pro4X(Marcin) has a heat gun you can do it with in 20 minutes, I know because Ive used it before.

Seriously you can go pick up a heat gun this weekend at Harbor Freight for $12.99 and do it yourself and be good to go within minutes.

So I went down to discount tire today, and swapped out my bfg's. They were awesome about switching them out. I have se xterra, so the salesman told me to wait and get some bigger tires. But I asked them to put some 33's on there to see how they would fit.

And what do you know just like everyone said, they fit. I have not rubbed at all.

They did not have much in stock for that size for some reason. I did some research while I was there and found that some xterras and quite a few frontiers run the Cooper Discoverer ATP's, and loved them.

So I decided to go with them. They feel great, and I'm not rubbing at all, I havent driven much on them since I just got them on.

But I'll keep you guys posted on how these perform. They seem to be solid tires with a good tread design.

Thanks for everyones input and help!

Ya, I was impressed with them. They took care of it fast and with no questions asked. I just called and said I wanted to trade my tires in. They told me to come on in. I found the guy I spoke to on the phone, and figured I'd need to give him some reasons why I wanted to trade them in. But he just asked me what I wanted and showed me prices and what my options were.

I just had to pay the difference between the tires. I just found them for 15 bucks cheaper online, so I'm going to go  back in and see if they will credit some money back to my card since they price match anyone in the country.

They will, and if you find them shipped and out of state where you don't have to pay tax, they will match that as well.
