Title: New guy from Scottsdalewith tranny issues already.
Post by: boostedinaz on May 06, 2013, 08:25:47 PM
My name is Michael and I live in Scottsdale. I work at a chassis shop in Gilbert and run my own small business, a pool company. My wife and I just bought an 05 Xterra SE with 120K on it to tote around our kids.  Unfortunately it had tranny issue from the get go and I am in the midst of getting the tranny rebuilt. Looks like it might be expensive but I'm hoping my search for parts will go well and I can keep the expenses some what reasonable.

What a beast of tranny.

Thanks for the space,
Michael

Research SMOD (Strawberry Milkshake of Death) online regarding 2005+ Xterra's, you probably got a case of it.

Good luck.

Oh I know thats the issue hence why I pulled it. Im currently looking for a valve body since it was wiped out with coolant. Tranny shop is saying the valve body is 1300.00 and I really hope that it not the case.

Welcome!  ;D Was your trans slipping? Sorry to hear it man. I did the Rad mod the moment I purchased my Xterra. After you fix it you can either replace the radiator or do the mod or both haha. Anyways welcome aboard!

Definitely gotta do something with the radiator also or the new tranny will have the same problem, ouch! BTW, Nissan is now paying a part of the repairs for this issue, etc... look into it, it may save you some cash. Cant remember all the details of warranty repair.

Yeah the radiator will be bypassed and I'll just use the stock front mounted cooler for now. We may do some towing with a small trailer at some point so if that happens I'll upgrade to a large Setrab cooler and some A/N lines for better flow.

Talked to the tranny shop and they worked out an okay price for me. I'm still really upset that the valve body for these trannys are so expensive. Either way I should have the tranny back on Sat then I'll start putting it back in. Hopefully I can finally get my wife the Xterra she was hoping for on Mothers Day. lol

We were gonna look into the class action lawsuit and other similar claims but it looks like we are SOL because of our mileage of 120K.
