Title: Trail Run that will benefit some charities, Krawl To The King
Post by: sunny1881 on July 06, 2013, 09:17:43 AM
Here is a run coming up, it will benefit some charities and the Yarnell tragedy, it is $20 a rig to benefit multiple things, there is a raffle, giveaways, prize packs and more. I will be there, hope to see other AZXC'ers make it.

For everybody's information Backroad to Crown King Trail does have some difficult obstacles but 90% have bypasses and any 4wd (even stock) X can do this trail, we got a 2wd Titan through it in the snow in the past.

Here is there Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/az.krawlers

Register here: http://www.shop.azkrawlers.com/

Attending:
Sunny (sunny1881)
Brent (remo1991)
Vince (slapshotking09)
Chad Chaney(copperstate4wheelers Pres)
Avi (Hammer)
Andrew (hopefully) (azxterra410)

This run is expected to have anywhere from 50-100 rigs with multiple clubs vehicles participating, so there will be 2 or 3 or 4 start times, more details will come available as it gets closer, I'll keep you all informed.

Ive done one of these runs before with multiple groups and start times, a lot of new people to meet and a lot of fun.

They did encourage to register asap so they can have an accurate rig count, etc... So the sooner the better if your gonna make the run.

An AZXC meeting can be held up in Crown King on the back patio of the Saloon, great place for that in the not so hot Valley weather.

How do they determine which start time you are? Just thinking of how to set up/schedule the meeting if it comes down to having it in crown kind.

Well I'm going Fun Fun I just hope it doesn't start at 8am it's going to take me like 4hrs to get there.

Cool, see you there.

Most likely will be that early, start times Im guessing will be anywhere between 7am-9am. From Tucson to staging area it should only take you about 2-2.5 hours unless you drive like a grandma.

Here is a map to staging area from Tucson:

So who all from AZXC is attending? I'll update the OP with a list. Current update is ~35 rigs, expected to get to 50+, most likely, 2 or 3 groups.

Come on guys, this is a great trail, honestly, an AZ classic, there is a Saloon in CK for lunch and a brew once we get there, very cool.

Title: Re: Trail Run that will benefit some charities and Yarnell Tragedy
Post by: sunny1881 on July 10, 2013, 02:26:36 PM
Im not sure there is an actual deadline but I would assume they want at least a few days prior to get all paypal payments and registration squared away, there is goodie bags with swag, etc... being handed out so I know they want a final number at some point.

For exact dates you can email for more info: info@azkrawlers.com

Vince that's a great idea but I just got the registration form and i think they are grouping us up as experience. On the form skill level: Newbie,Intermediate,Advanced and Extreme. I could be Newbie or Intermediate but by no means am I advanced or Extreme. I know Sunny wanted me to join his group but I think I will slow everyone down and with that many trucks i would be shot on site.  So i hope to see you out there.
Title: Re: Trail Run that will benefit some charities and Yarnell Tragedy

Got an email back.

"Technically the registration closes on Monday. This way I can get all the groupings sorted and email confirmations sent out.

No real specific way. Just making sure each grouping has at least a few CBs, winches, etc. Wanted to try and have different experience levels split up. If you are interested in having your club stay together, I would need all the names who have registered so I can set aside their forms and try and get you guys all together.

We are expecting to have about 50 participants.  We will most likely have 3-4 groups, first departing as early as 6am probably."

I hope I have answers your questions. If there are any other concerns, don't hesitate to ask."

Who's going to this for sure? Just Sunny, Brent and I? Do you guys wanna be put together?

Title: Re: Trail Run that will benefit some charities and Yarnell Tragedy
Post by: sunny1881 on July 12, 2013, 11:12:37 AM
Im fine with being together, Vince maybe on your registration form request 7am depart time, because we dont want to be 6am and dont want to be last either. It will be an early morning for you 2 but will be a good day.

Also write on there we want to be in the group with Chad Chaney, he is a good guy I work with and is President of Copperstate4wheelers also, would like to run and be grouped with him.

By the way, AZXC lets get more participants, where you all at? This is an awesome AZ trail!

Ted, Andrew, Avi and a lot of Newbs but not seen on the trails, wth?

Brent feared he was to green but like I told him, only way to get to know your rig and get better experience is to wheel it!

Well I would have to make a game day decision as to whether or not I go. So the whole pre-register and stuff kinda turns me off to the idea. I just cant commit 100% atm.

Ya I was a bit nevus but I have been on 5 trips with the guys from AZXC and they really really help you out. No laughing at you or calling you moron well Marcin mite but its done in a fun way. So come on guys it will be fun. Hay  if we do get a 6am start time i'll just stay in Phx Friday night.

If people are nervous about their rig, they're bypasses. Worse case scenario. You try to go up the obstacle, and if you don't feel comfortable, back down.
Title: Re: Trail Run that will benefit some charities and Yarnell Tragedy
Post by: remo1991(Brent) on July 12, 2013, 11:50:54 AM

Title: Re: Trail Run that will benefit some charities and Yarnell Tragedy
Post by: AZXterra410 on July 12, 2013, 12:15:42 PM
There are probably 4 major obstacles... I have never been on a run that takes less than half a day from start to finish.

The trail is a long one, 25-26 miles IRC (thats part reason why start times are early). But a good one, like Andrew said 4 or so major obstacles but all have bypasses and we will probably run it farely quick, the goal of AZKrawlers is to have all groups in CK by 2pm.

It will be an all day event but worth it!

When do you think everyone would be back in town after this?

Goal of event is to have everyone in CK by 2pm, you could leave from CK right then and be back in town by 3pm or sooner if you get to CK sooner, but most people will go into the Saloon have some lunch, have a brew or 2, etc... they do have a raffle as well but not sure what time that will start.

Im planning it as an all day event as most runs are, if Im home by 8pm Im fine.

Roll onto to trail at 830am so make sure your there at 8am to air down, brief, etc...

Just make sure to try and be there at 8am please to air down and have pre-run briefing (dont be that running late person) (I will be there about 715-730ish if you want to come early and meet people and watch other groups leave), I would suggest topping off your gas tank at the Chevron off of Carefree highway as well, the trail from the staging area to CK is about 30 miles which may not sound like a lot but when your wheeling you use a lot more gas and its another 25 miles out of CK back to the highway. Bring plenty of water, gatorade, snacks, etc... we will not stop for lunch, only stopping may be for the occasionally nature break and some obstacles...

Lastly it may be raining on and off, so be prepared for that as well.

See you all there!

Andrew I just emailed the coordinator to inquire for you, I asked if you can just pay $20 when you show up or not pay at all since it's last minute and not get a swag bag. Either way, if all else fails, you can just show up and roll into our group, its a public trail so they cant tell you no or stop you, honestly I dont think they will be policing it real hardcore or anything.

I'll let you know what the email response is when I get it.

Andrew I got an email back, she said she will check and see, she thinks she has an extra swag bag which includes a raffle ticket. If so, you can pay your $20 when you arrive in CK, if not you run for free but no swag bag or raffle ticket but if they do have an extra bag they would prefer you pay the $20 like the rest of us since it is a charity run. She will let me know for sure tomorrow morning.

Hello Guys I may be out for this and it sucks had my hotel and everything for Friday night. I think I fried my alternator this morning. It rained pretty good last night and had to go though a wash so I think that's what did it. I have xmas tree on my dash right now still need to investigate this issue. I had my bat tested this morning and it seemed fine don't know right now.

They can test alternator at AutoZone, should be an easy swap if thats the case.

You can come and buy my X and then you would have a rig to wheel!  ;)

I doubt there is pics, I was leading and didn't take any, although I wasn't much of a leader as my truck overheated all day  and we had to stop 5 or 6 times to top off my radiator and ultimately most likely blew a head gasket or cracked a head in my rig, wont know for sure until I get it into a shop and they tear into it. $$$ adding up quick, damn it! :'(

Nice line Vince now for Avi I've seen better hahaha. Avi did you get any pucker? I didn't see any of Sunny or Andrew? Andrew did you do the same obstacle as Avi and Vince. Well looks like it was fun. Sunny sorry about your truck just wondering did you have any over heating issues before?

I skipped that one. I have done it in the past and have always had issues. Just took it easy for the day.

Honestly the only reason why we have any pics is due to stopping. Sunny was about 5 rigs in front of me and my buddy got out and snapped pics when Avi was stuck. It wasn't a picture taking kind of day with 65 vehicles there and just trying to make it to Crown King in the end

Don't have time and garage to do it in since it will be a long process with truck sitting around taken up space. Also I haven't even determined the exact problem just assuming blown head gasket and/or cracked head considering the symptoms and cause of issue.

Still researching, contemplating, etc... some shops are saying may be better to go with new used or rebuilt motor since if it is cracked head it will be just as expensive but Im gonna continue to narrow down my best options.
