Title: Stripped/stuck Lower shock bolt halts spacer install.
Post by: Jo-BOB on August 31, 2014, 03:28:25 PM
So I had some free time, and decided to throw my spacers on top of my radflo's. Or that was the plan.

So I started on the driver side, all went smooth. Raised the rig up, took the sway bar mounts off, swung it down. took the lower shock bolt off, removed the top 3 shock mounts, put spacer on top of radlfo and installed.

Then I came over to the passenger side, the lower shock bolt was very stiff, and got increasingly harder to get off. Once I got it off I looked at the threading, and it was stripped. So I figure I'll just take it out run to the store and get it replaced. But that bolt would not come out. I hammered the end of it and it would only go to a certain point. Now I have a stripped bolt stuck in the lower shock mount.

Anyone have any ideas, of how to get that guy out?

I had a alternator  bolt striped on a car I was working on and got this kit at auto zone that I think is like $30 that grabbed it nicely and brought it right our.

It is a socket set that has like 8 different sizes that have a aggressive razor like inside that digs into the edge of the bolt as you crank it to come out.

finally got it out. Had to punch it out with an socket extender (not best form, but limited on tools and time). It still took quite a bit of force to get it out. But finally got it, then ran to ace to get a replacement bolt.

for future reference, make sure to tighten everything down to spec. When I did my radflos i must have not tightend the lower shock bolt (the one that got stuck/striped) the guy working said that it was prob vibrating and under that force it destroyed the threads.
