Title: Rear diff has metal shavings.
Post by: slimdoneee on October 07, 2014, 06:38:40 PM
I just recently found metal shavings in my rear diff. What is the best route I should take to fix it? I believe the rear diff is making a knocking noise also.

how did you find the metal shavings? Drain and fill to make sure that your fluids are good. Just pray that there isnt too much damage and you'll need a new diff.

I think that is the C200, it has spider gears that tend to break.  You need to pull the diff cover and inspect the damage.  If you lost a tooth in the spider gear it may be repairable, or you may need a new rear axle.  Either way, if the spider gear breaks free while driving your axle can lock up completely causing additional damage to the drive train, suspension, axle carrier, the list goes on.

I ended up taking my truck to Arizona Differential. They told me my bearings went back and will rebuild my rear diff for me. Has anyone every used Arizona Differential before?
