Title: Lake pleasent to crown king/Prescott
Post by: goosedeath on December 05, 2014, 06:08:25 PM
Who's up for a lake pleasant to crown king or Prescott trip on Dec 13? I'm thinking meet up near the In and Out at the 74 and I-17 at about 8:30-45, and leave by 9 am.
I've done crown king solo once, would love to have a group w/ this next time. I see interest on the shout box thing.
For those ego haven't done it yet, plan on taking all day and possibly a little extra gas and a lunch. Crown King won't have much to offer, as they've entered their winter hours, so if you need something, bring it w/.
Feel free to share this invite in other forums, the more the merrier, but let's be mature on the trail please.
Corwin

Good luck and have fun. I'll be working both my jobs and have a work xmas party that day. Use this trip as a pre run for the AZXC 2015 Kickoff.

Any interest in going from lake pleasant to Prescott the long, back way? Check out the trail book for an idea of what I'm thinking. I'll update w/ trail numbers from the book in the morning when I get home.

Whats the trail name to Prescott?

In the book, "guide to az backroads and 4-wheel drive trails", the trail that goes from crown king to Prescott is trail number 30. I was thinking we do 34 to 30. Or, do 34 to 30, to 31. 31 might be a bit too challenging for some...
The other thing to consider, it'd be getting dark shortly after getting to crown king. I'm adventurous and all, but I'd rather not be that far out after dark. So, just going to crown king may be the best option unless we were to leave earlier in the morning.

I been wanting to do that road

Senator Highway is long, scenic, and easy.  I drove that road 4 times in a Pontiac Sunfire (from I-17 through Bumble Bee to Crown King, and then connected to Senator Highway).  It is a graded dirt road almost all the way in to Prescott.  The last few miles are paved.

So are you saying this is pretty much a 2wd friendly run AZ-Ted?

From Crown King to Prescott is 2WD friendly in dry conditions.  The backroad to Crown King (from Lake Pleasant to Crown King) is more challenging for 2WDs.  That being said, you may want to check with Azfronty99, I believe he has ran that portion in his 2WD.

What area are you looking at m.sainz12?   I live in Maricopa and there are tons out there for rent for pretty cheap,  I work in Chandler and take me 30 minutes to get to work.

NW valley I work in surprise. I'm sure we'll find something, the house we put in for had a 3 car garage and rv gate which is ideal for my boat and a work area. So now I'll have to suck it up and leave the boat at my bosses house.. :(

I left in and out at 9:30am. Nobody showed. Joined a group made up of a 4runner, taco, 1500, dodge, and a newer jeep. Had a great time. The taco got a little to rough, broke a CV, had to be winched out. They stopped to camp, I pressed on into snow on my own. Had a great time, 2wd would have made for really long tough go, due to the slippery conditions. It wasa great day for 4wd though.
Punctured the sidewall twice on the same tire, patched it and carried on.
Next time...

Sweet, looks like fun. Wish I could have gone.

As for the Taco, I work with him. Super nice guy. Hope he got out alright.

You know the taco?! Older gentleman w/ hearing aids? If that's the same guy, could you get in touch w/ him to see about having the guy taking video to email me a copy of the video of my wheeling?  One if the guys was named Travis, he was driving a blue 4runner, I think his dad was driving the taco.

I'm positive they were all fine, they were going camping. Travis said the taco broke the outer most CV joint, so he wasn't worried about it.

Was the 4Runner lifted, oversized tires, LED lightbar on the bumper, and a Roof Top Tent?  If so, that was Travis from Nissan4Wheelers.com (he goes by MT TANK on that site).  Really cool guy.  He is part of the SWANKy crew (SouthWest Area Nissan Klub yota).

I don't recall seeing a rooftop tent on the 4runner. I'll have to check out that other group and get a hold of him. I'd go wheeling w/him again.

Sure thing, next time I work with him I'll talk to him about getting the video's. I park next to his rig all the time.

Thanks!  If they can't get the videos, but post them to youtube, at least knowing a user name would be very helpful.

I've driven Senator Highway, Big Bug Mesa Rd, and Walker Rd. All are easy and doable in 2WD, although I wouldn't attempt going up there in the snow if it was a 2WD.
