Title: MOD DAY FOR 88HIGH - STILL ON, BUT IN PRESCOTT, ARIZONA!
Post by: 88high on May 23, 2015, 11:34:21 AM
Hey all, I'm a lurker on this forum, but some of y'all may know me on Facebook as Duncan Mills, from Prescott, AZ. Anyways, I've got a 2005 Nissan Xterra S 4X4, with a whole laundry list of mods to do, and I'll be down in Mesa/Tempe area from ~8:30AM Saturday, May 30th, through Sunday afternoon sometime, May 31st, 2015. I need to find a place close-ish to there to host my first mod day. Here is all I have to get done:

-SMOD bypass.

-Leveling kit: Rough Country 2.5" coil bucket spacers, with bumpstops, on Pitsnipe's Biltseins, with 2" shackles in the back (hopefully they will come in the mail this week).

-Hi-Lift Jack mounts on roof rack: I have a high lift jack and some mounts for it, I just need to drill into my roof rack and get it lined up and mounted.

-KC lights: I need to get light mounts built and the lights wired, but this is my last priority.

-Paint recovery points red.

Please let me know if you are interested in participating in this mod day, or even better hosting it, my email is Brickshelf.88high@gmail.com and my phone number is (480)-939-4728. Thanks!

So on Saturday night or Sunday, I'm doing SMOD bypass with Clifford. If I can't get a mod day together this weekend then I'll do it on June 13th at Hammer's house.

Hammer's got a good tool box selection.

Sorry for the late reply, since there was not enough commitment, due to my short notice, and I couldn't find a place to host down in the valley, it was cancelled. It will be moved to Saturday, June 13th at Hammer's house. All are welcome, we can use all the help we can get! Also, if you need some modifications on your truck, bring it along too and we can pitch in and do it as well.

After looking at possible tempatures down in the valley, it will be 110 on the weekend of the mod day. We kinda have two options: work early in the morning, or at night, or drive up to Prescott, where we could host it at my house, if everyone brings their tools. Let me know what is the best idea!

I have to work that weekend so I'm out. If there is something going on this weekend I'm game, but otherwise the 13th is no good for me.

The number 110 is why I think people are finding different things to do. Summer is here no more mod days. Trust me poor Ben I made him help me on my lift and it was only 103. It sucks when it's that hot.

Maybe we will get lucky and a cold front will come through, but barring that I will make sure you are first in line at the next mod day.

Looks like some of the main people I was relying on to help have conflicts :-\ , plus it will be miserable being that hot. I'll call the 13th a bust as well. I'll have all of my suspension components in on Friday, so I'll probably just get together with one other friend and knock er out within a day, or pay a shop to do it... haha I'm so eager/impatient to get lifted... ;D Prescott has been nice lately... mid 80's and upper 60's in the morning and night hours.

I did it all myself, knowing what I know now it is doable in a day.  First attempt it took me longer as I fought everything.  I'd start spraying the leaf spring bolts with liquid wrench now.  Also, I've learnt to do the AAL on the truck, just use clamps/jack to hold the spring together while you remove the bolts then back it off.  Remove the overload spring, add the leaf.  I got a longer center bolt to get it started, if you can find one fully threaded you can cut off the end, if not use clamps once it maxes out and switch to the bolt it came with.

I'm not afraid of heat, I've been inside a steel furnace. Way hotter.

Heat doesnt really bother me. Esp when it comes to working on my rig. So if someone wants to host and can get a couple guys on a day I'm free I'm still game.

I did my lift last weekend by myself, "You better man up" this is Arizona! Its always Hot!  ;D

I don't get all the "man up" comments, and "heat don't bother me"  give me a break.  I did my mod by myself in early May, at around 90-100 and I wouldn't wish it on anyone.  At 110 by yourself is just miserable, if not out right dangerous.  You're talking about suspension components, pre loaded with hundreds of pounds of tension and making bad decisions under the heat of a Phoenix summer.   It would be one thing if we could get 3 or 4 guys to show up at 6AM and get it knocked out by noon.  But only one guy volunteered to help and I can't be there most of the morning.  Hopefully some of you guys volunteer to go up and help a fellow AZXC member install his lift in Prescott.

I think one of the things he was pointing out about doing it in Prescott were the tools. If I have a set date, I can get the day off, and bring the tools I have, but I definitely don't want to be the only one heading out there because my tools are no where near enough.

All in all, mod day went well and we knocked it out with two people within 4 hours with mostly hand tools. Next is getting my new rims fitted with bigger tires!

Good to hear, 4hrs with 2 people is probably faster then I could get it knocked out.

Three people, but still, everything went as planned. I forgot to add, that I just got some Off-road trim level wheels from Masaru and I mounted them to some 285-75-R16 Kuhmo Road Venture A/T's, and I'm living it!

On another note, I'm going to be back down in Phoenix within a few weeks to pick up my low-pro roof rack from whattha when he finishes it, and I'm going to need to paint and install it, as well as my KC lights, and wire it all in, and put some gear up there. So maybe if we could schedule another mod day for other members too in one weekend in late July, that would be rad!
