Title: Anyone into some long range?
Post by: Brute on August 26, 2015, 09:40:45 PM
Could use 1 or two people that would like to go shooting a couple times every month. I reload my own ammo, and I know a great spot to shoot out to about 2000+ yards. Let me know!

If you wound mind me shooting that bad boy I'm in! I don't have a "long range" gun so I'm limited. I could give you some cash for bullets?

Sure it costs me about .40 cents a round to make match grade .223, it cost about 1.40 a round to make match .338 lapua!

Ohhhh we can make that Mosin hit at 1k easy

I just bought a century arms 100% American made AK the receiver is stamped. I love it! I'm new to the AK world so I wasn't looking to get the best of the best

shameless plug for a very low cost ($90-ish) two-day clinic that will teach you how to shoot out to 500 yards using iron sights . . .

Nice, George any chance you would be willing to put something together for some AZXC members? It doesn't have to be anything formal. I have been wanting to pick up an SVD and learn to hit dimes at 300 yards.

Bad news - work just informed me (today) I'm working every weekend for the rest of the month.  The first two weekends of June are Project Appleseed (come on out to Buckeye http://www.eventbrite.com/event/19006222122 (http://www.eventbrite.com/event/19006222122) - $60 plus $6/day range fee plus 400 rds of ammo and you'll learn a lot - something about drinking from a fire hose) so I'm tied up there.  By the time the dust settles, my wife is going to wonder if she's married, and I'll have to show up at home and remind her :)

If ya come out June 4-5th in Buckeye, we could take over part of the park and circle up the Xterras, likely here:

Both of those spots have vaulted toilets, so there is some semblance of civilization.
This spot is popular, but has no toilet:

It's a Maricopa Park, but there is no fee to camp.

If y'all miss this Appleseed, we can look into teaching a small subset of the curriculum later on - maybe meet up somewhere real early (since it will be hot).  If we can get the line set up by 8am and finish by lunch, we should have covered the prone position steady hold factors and put some rounds downrange.  Not sure about hitting dimes at 300 yds  ;).

The goal of Project Appleseed is to be able to hit a 20" target at 500 yds, which translates to 4" at 100 yds, and they do so by focusing on making the shooter stable and training at reduced distance.  It's a  big waste of ammo to shoot 400 yds and have to worry about bullet drop, wind, and sighting systems when the shooter is shaking like a palm tree in a dust storm.
