Title: Christmas Party & Light Parade 2009
Post by: AZ-Ted on November 30, 2009, 11:09:10 PM
I haven't been to a meeting in quite awhile.  Are we having a December meeting?  Also, are we having the light parade this year?

Oops. In any case, the party & light parade will be December 12th. The link was to the November meeting thread where it was determined.

Any suggesstions as to the place to have the party? What about parade location/route? keep it the same as previous years?

I think dinner at a joint in Tempe Marketplace then off too the usual route worked pretty well last year. No sure on th club funds paying for dinner in full again however. So maybe eat before if you don't want to pay yourself.

Low funds this year. I think it will be pizza somewhere.Chuckie Cheese or something that does not cost alot..

I will open this up for discussion, and if there is interest I am not opposed to doing some BBQ Pulled Pork and/or turkey for the party. It would be a cheap route to go.

I can do close to 60 lbs at once.  Would just need a head count to determine how much would be needed.  I did this for my division at work and it was around $70 total feeding about 40 to 50 people.  After buns, meat, wood chunks and other small ingredients it came out to around $5 per person.

If someone is willing to host at their home or if we want to meet at a park, prior to parade....

My thoughts exactly. BAH HUMBUG! :(

Hell...RJCX make some pork, bring your family over to my place, I'll make some ribs & fixin's, we'll all eat; then you & I can drive around spreading Christmas cheer with our decorated Xterra's.  That is 3 trucks at least between the two of us. Unfortuantely I don't have the space to host the party.  :-\

Seriously folks...if there is no interest - please let me know one way or another (PM, phone, text, email, post-up) so people can make other plans for that evening during this busy time of year.  :)

My .02: I'm cool with just doing the light parade & no party  :( if that works better financially & time-wise for the majority, but some input would be helpful...

I LOVE firing up the smoker and making my neighbors hungry, wishing they were invited over for good food.

I am good with just doing the BBQ for everyone. Think of it as my gift to everyone in AZXC.

Just need a headcount in order for me to get the approriate amount of meat by at least Wednesday, 12/9 so I can start cooking on Friday mid-afternoon.

Even though I have not yet been voted in as an official member :(, I am willing to open my house for the  party.  I live in Queen Creek, Ironwood and Combs, so it would be a drive for most.  We have plenty of room, as we have hosted parties for the 4th of July having close to 50 people comfortably in the house and backyard.

My community is currently having a huge holiday event throughout the month with holiday decorations, www.loopoflights.com, kick off is tonight with food and a free raffle.  This runs through to the end of the month.  It is a very kid friendly event and . This is the third year for the event and it is growing every year.   There is usually a large amount of traffic, both those on foot and vehicles that drvie through,  although mainly a residential area, but would be cool to do the light parade around  the subdivision.  I have a good in with the organizer and it could be good exposure for the club.

I don't know if anything has been decided...

I vote for a nice get-together dinner at Oregano's in Old Town Scottsdale. This will be easy because it's cheap, we can all pay our own tabs and this location is central to most. I understand that it may be a low turn out, but that's ok! At a minimum, Wally and I would be there, so no one will be alone. I'd love to see you all there, because it's nice to be with friends during the holidays, share stories and do some catch-up. But even if Skooter is the only one that shows, it will still be ok (haha just kidden, Skoot).

So, I vote for Oregano's, Saturday at 6pm. If so, Please text me, PM, email or whatever to Tim or I so we know how big of a table to get.

As for lights... I vote for a simple contest and those of you who participate should do a run through Old Town. I vote that everyone that doesn’t participate will be judges. I’ll bring a little dooker prize to present to the winner of the best. (Please avoid single strands of red or blue lights as this will encourage harassment from police ‘cause your lights might gain more attention than them. Just kidden, but blue and red lights or anything that may look like emergency vehicle is illegal.)

I love RJCX's idea! And I think a lot of other people do too. It's just that things are a bit rough for everyone right now for many different reasons. Robert, can we do BBQ real soon when we can give you and everyone a good amount of time for prep and plans and we have a turn out worth your kind efforts?

^^GREAT IDEA!!!! ;D  I love Oregano's and yes definitely more central that Bumfred Queen Creek.

Me and the Family should be there, hopefully with lights on!!!

As far as BBQ anytime we want to do it, I am game...just need the head count and a couple of days notice....and the effrot is minimal.

Looks like we missed out on the Christmas party.     Not sure if we are members or what we need to do to become members.  We attended one meeting and one overnight.
