Title: Buckeye Xterra
Post by: bdjones72 on November 03, 2015, 08:08:52 PM
Hi all.  My name is Brian.  I have a 2000 Nissan Xterra I originally bought new in October 1999.  I live in Buckeye AZ now but I am originally from Pittsburgh, PA and was the founding member of the Western PA Xterra Club.  I don't take my X off road any longer and I don't drive her as a daily driver any longer but she still runs strong and I plan to keep her as long as possible.  Hope to see some of you out on the road!  The off roading pics are from the 2006 ECXC when she was truly an off road beast.

Great pics and welcome to the club. Not many 1st gens here. Great to have you. Any chance of getting that out on an easy trail?

I have know about the club since I moved here in 2009.  I met with Adam Merriman and even attended a few events thus the AZXC sticker.  I've had a lot going on and simply haven't had time to do much of anything Xterra related for many years.  I had been contemplating selling it as I drive it less than 3,000 miles/year.  She only has 111,XXX miles on her and I've had her for 16 years now.  She needed some repairs but I'm more attached to it than I probably should be and decided recently to start making her a little more road worthy/safe again.  Just replaced the steering system.  She needs new tires, rear spring packs and I have to figure out why she tends to overheat in the summer.  So I've always been around, just been laying low.

probably not.  She needs a little work and some better tires before hitting the trails again.

Great looking 1st GEN. Welcome, Adam's good people. Get it together by August and join us for your first FAT TIRE event.

Hey Brian! Good to hear from you. I'm still lurking around, not so much into the running of anything Club related now.

Would love to see you make Fat Tire. 111K is just breaking it in still unless you haven't done the T-Belt then it's a time-bomb. This overheating is the same you originally had?

Check or replace:
coolant quality
thermostat (you might want to replace the short bypass hose too, I used a section cut from another hose as it wasn't stocked at autozone)
Hydraulic Clutch and fan.
Radiator (check for damaged fins from mud as well as blockage) If it's the original OEM, replace it. 1-800-radiator or Hawkes Radiator have been really good to me and have a lifetime warranty. This is what fixed mine as it would run hot on the trail or on long hill-climbs but fine in town.

Worth mentioning, be very careful not to break off your heater core connections. They are super brittle and are not available without buying the assembly from the Dealer at a very high cost.

I found really reasonably priced KENDA Klever M/T's locally for my S/C rims I got from Ty and highly recommend them so far.

I don't visit the site everyday, but if you need some help, just let me know. :)

Hi Brian,

I had seen your Xterra a while back parked in front of Dominos. Looks great, see you around town.
