Title: New Phoenix Member 2013 Pro 4X 6-speed Grey
Post by: AZ Prospector on June 24, 2016, 07:40:43 AM
As a hunter and prospector I am out almost every weekend during the cooler months of the year.  Summer is my time to reevaluate gear, upgrade equipment and get ready for the next season.

The 2013 Pro 4X is my second Xterra.  I purchased a 2000 when they first came out and traded it in for the 2013.  It literally went from the dealer to a week elk hunt north of flagstaff. 7 degree weather and 30mph wind that week (it was a cold one).  Between business travel and weekend excursions, I am up to 52K miles so I spend a lot of time in my X.

I have not done much to the X as it's pretty well equipped out the door for my use.  Most improvements have been gearing it up for 3-5 days off the grid.
- ARB Fridge
- ArkPak Second Battery
- Renogy 60W folding Panel
- DEP Roof Rack
- Rear Storage Rack
- CB Radio
- Wilson Signal Booster

Upgrades this summer
- Rotopax for water/fuel on roof rack
- Powerder Coat for DEP Rack, done.  I did a quick paint job when I got it originally and put it to work for the season.  Just got it back from powder coating and wow.

Future upgrades
- Suspension, gotta do something about the soft rear
- Skid Plates
- Front/Rear bumpers

Nice setup, I have to say out of all the gear I have ever purchased my ARB fridge is the most used item.

Welcome!

Definitely want to check out your solar panel.  I have mine attached to the roof rack, which I can tilt by loosening the roof rails and lifting on one side.

I was reading your profile and I noticed this is your second truck. I as well decided to buy my second truck .(White X and now Black X)

At least you are close to The Superstations MT's and Roosevelt Dam. The long and winding road thru Saguaro Lakes .  Lots of lost history out there!

One of my favorite  day trips!

Looks like some sort of AZ a/c setup maybe to cool you down.

It's mining gear.  The orange thing is a leaf blower attached to a 5 gallon bucket.  Serves as a vacuum and also supplies air for the drywasher via the hose.  This was a mining load up picture:). Really like the Garvin rear rack.  Still plenty of room underneath when I sleep in the Xterra.

I did make something for this though.  Was trying to extend my season and made a portable evaporative cooler out of a 5 gallon bucket.  Will post some pics.  Ended up giving it to our mining neighbor so he could use it over the summer and give it a good test run.  I'll post some pics shortly

It usually is the small stuff, but once in a while you come across some nice pickers.  It's hard dusty back breaking work, but it gets me off the sofa and outdoors.

That is a nice drive, I've done some quail hunting and camping back in there.....beautiful country.  Would be a nice event trip for us entry level off-roaders:)  Plenty of places to camp and fishing to boot.

Welcome!

Definitely want to check out your solar panel.  I have mine attached to the roof rack, which I can tilt by loosening the roof rails and lifting on one side.

had it hard mounted to the DEP rack and even flat it averaged about 40-50 watts, but it took up 3/4 of the rack.  removed it so I could have the rack powder coated and will more than likely just use it as portable in the future.  Set it up once I get to camp.  I did however like the no fuss of having it on all the time.  If I go permanent again, id probably go with the renogy 100w panel.  I am very impressed with the quality and power output for the price.

Id like to set up a 100W on a sliding tray under the rack that could be deployed and stored quickly.
