Post by: XterrasNameIsMolly (Justin) on December 02, 2016, 08:34:36 AM
Well the information is out!

https://www.facebook.com/groups/1328590440495477/

May 21st - May 26th.

I have the time off, and I am excited to say I will be attending this year!

I was posting to see if anyone wanted to split a camp site or something along those lines / plan on going together including caravan up to Moab from AZ.

Should be fun!

I would like to go but still don't know about the crowded trails. Have done it bymyself and do recommend going.

If people are interested but concerned with larger group size, my recommendation would be to go! The trails are divided up well, only the easier trails end up with a large amount of people.  So if you want to go and run hard trails, it is best to sign up early.  The trail leaders know what they are doing, in my experience you'll get good guidance and spotting.  It is a great opportunity to meet new people and you will have a blast!

7 mile rim is a fun trail for a 1st timer to Moab; scenic,  long off camber parts, wipeout hill, and more.. Consider Poison Spider at weeks end if you're feeling it.

Vic do it! I need a buddy! We could do the overlanding trip for the first 3 days? Then last 2 on the trails? Seems like a fun set up, the overland trip is supposed to be a pretty amazing route. (Blue equivalent) in their scale.

Depending on time (and budget), maybe overnight in VOTG (Valley of the Gods) (http://bluffutah.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/votg.jpg),
and next day a guided tour up Hunts Mesa in Monument Valley (http://stearnsphotography.com/90390-MV_Hunts_Mesa_Sunset_D/Monument_Valley_Hunts_Mesa_Sunset_90390-00280DL.jpg)
http://www.navajospirittours.com/hunts-mesa (http://www.navajospirittours.com/hunts-mesa).
Press on in to Utah and climb Moki Dugway (http://www.americansouthwest.net/utah/photographs700/mhat.jpg) (http://bluffutah.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/ValleyOfTheGods-Map1A.jpg)
 then visit Goosenecks (https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/0/01/2009-08-20-01800_USA_Utah_316_Goosenecks_SP.jpg/600px-2009-08-20-01800_USA_Utah_316_Goosenecks_SP.jpg)
and Newspaper rock (http://www.americansouthwest.net/utah/photographs450/newspaper2.jpg)..
Sleep somewhere (there's a neat little ruin along the way. can't remember the name, I thought it was Burro Creek but that's here in AZ..). Finally on in to Moab. sure you can wheel all 5 days, but you might consider skipping an easy trail day, and rafting instead (http://www.funfix.com/Gallery/Images/lg_Moab-UT-White-Water-Rafting.jpg)..
Plan to stay overnight in Hovenweep on the way home,  (http://gradcontent.com/lib/600x350/hovenweep-native-ruins.jpg)
and hike out to the far ruins (http://beyond.thirddoor.com/site/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/IMG_5919-1280x1077.jpg).
For fun, you can rent a yurt at the San Juan inn  on the way home too (https://media-cdn.tripadvisor.com/media/photo-s/02/f7/73/1c/san-juan-inn.jpg)..
Maybe check out Mexican Hat? You can see it out the door of the yurt.(http://cdn.allmoab.com/images/content/9883_3367_Mexican_Hat_UT_md.jpg)

I am now signed up as follows:

Day 1 - 3: Overlanding event
Day 4: Dome Plateau
Day 5: Porcupine Rim

I have been ensured the overlanding event would be the one to set the pace for all the GoneMoab's in the future. It will be a Blue - Dark Blue run, with 3-4 spots then ensure me will be a challenge. They will not release the run until all spots are filled for the run (10) and are at 5 rigs currently.

Extremely excited! Then staying at Canyonlands campground for Thursday - Saturday when back in town to shower and enjoy myself.

Anybody on the fence about this event, dont be, Ive been 5 years and 2017 will be my 6th, its a great event, great town, great trails and on and on, you meet awesome Nissan people, there is a raffle with some stellar prizes, i.e. winch, bumpers, set of tires, recovery equipment, etc...

Some trails will have 20-25 rigs on them and others 5-15 but its not a big deal and all part of the fun and experience of the event wheeling with like minded people/friends.

I will be leaving Tempe at 530am Saturday morning to head up if people want to join/caravan, I go up through Flagstaff to Kayenta through Monument Valley to Moab. I will be trailering, I will set my cruise control at about 75mph and let it ride.

Most people stay in the Rim Village/Rim Vista condos and thats where most of the action is, at night people fixing rigs, having beers, shooting the shit about the day, shenanigans, etc...others do camp around town, dinner is supplied 3 nights of the event and on and on, always something to do, its a great time and well worth the experience.
