Title: Trail Run New Years Weekend, Backroad to Crown King
Post by: sunny1881 on October 01, 2012, 07:49:41 PM
I know this may be a little early but I'd like to start setting up a Run for Sunday of New Years weekend, this year we had a run on 1-1-12 but I have to work this New Years day coming up so I'd like to do this run on Sunday.

We had an awesome turnout at the beginning of this year, 10+ rigs, hopefully we can get a lot again this time around. A lot of our rigs have transformed over the last year, would be nice to see them and the new mods as well.

EDIT: Sunday the 30th is the official day!

Its Official We will be running Back Road to Crown King

Meeting spot will be the Chevron gas station/McDs off of the I-17 and Carefree Highway at 0830a, roll out at 0900a.

Hope to see you all there!

^^^Not sure, I recently got my Az Trails book and was gonna look through it and come up hopefully with a good one, East Valley most likely. Recommendations are welcome as well. Probably decide in the next month or so.

Last I heard the trail to the Coke Ovens is closed, as is Martinez Canyon.  This may be frowned upon, but Virtual Jeep has an excellant listing of local trails, with accurate ratings and conditions.

http://www.virtualjeepclub.com/forumdisplay.php?73-Arizona-Trails

The trails are broken down in three catagories.

I see contradictory info for that trail, its hard to say whats what.  I hope it is open, that looks like an awesome run.  I was just checking and came accross this...

http://www.riderplanet-usa.com/atv/trails/info/arizona_09189/ride_1af5.htm

Half way down they have an alert that states Coke Ovens are on private property and certain clubs are working to gain access.  Let us know what BLM says.

I am off that weekend so either day is fine, as a matter of fact my wife and kids are heading east for a week and I  may be looking to run a few times that weekend.

If the land is "closed" by the state or BLM land or the owner I would want to respect their wishes, I often am tempted but I look introspectively as if the Land was mine.  I would be declined to travel the trail if it is indeed closed.  My .02

Cleaned up the thread a little and removed my post's regarding The Coke Ovens.

So who is in for this New Years Weekend Run? Post up if your in and which trail you may be interested in. I'll start a head count and we can dial in the meeting place.

An AZXC weekend of installing Xmas goodies and then wheeling!

Checked out my schedule and I'm off those days, so I'm in! Any decision on a trail yet? I'm up for the Wickenburg area trail, but honestly that's because it's nearer to me than the usual AZXC runs. I'm up for whatever though, I haven't been out since I went to Colorado a few months ago. Looking forward to seeing everyone again.

Ive never run it but we have our beloved jddirty with the MiniVan(stock edition, until he recently added Xoskel sliders) that has run many blue rated trails with us, he does great, trust me we all are out there to have fun, test the limits of the X a little or a lot depending on who you are, but in the end we have fun, wheel and always help and spot each other through any obstacles.

Please read the description's in the OP and post up what you'd like to run, we could narrow it down to 2 or if one trail has the majority go with that one. By Friday the 28th I will put post the Final trail we decide to run and the meeting location so please post up asap and look back next friday and saturday to see where were going!

I just replied previously that I vote for Gila River trail, but Im open for any of them, actually wouldnt mind running Crown King again, the obstacles are fun and chellenging enough but bypasses for those that choose. I dont personally have any pics(never ran it) my trail book has a few small ones but nothing worth trying to post on here. I'll see about mapping it.

Here is a link to the start location of Gila River Loop: http://binged.it/TekCAT, you run up to the river in a big creek bed then go around the big butte (which is the most challenging part) back to the river is where you see the RR trestle and then basically come back out.

Good choice!  Its a trail that can be available to all ability levels!

My suggestion would be meet at 0830 and roll out at 0900.  Its not as hot anymore and allows people to sleep in a bit.

Whats wrong with his skids?
Title: Re: Trail Run New Years Weekend, Backroad to Crown King
Post by: AZXterra410 on December 26, 2012, 02:16:52 PM
I need to find a way to remount them because when I took the rad/eng/tran/tcase skids off to do fluids last month, like 8 of the bolts had broken the welded nuts inside the frame. So the bolts just spun and spun and I had to brake em off to get the skids down. So now I essentially have to drill holes in the frame and put new nuts inside. Saturday I plan on spending the entirety of the day doing this. I will just go buy all new hardware and do it all at once. So hopefully I will be good by sunday.

It quite clearly states to wear pants and BRING the rest. So obviously the beanies/gloves are for colder weather, we'll brave CK in pants only otherwise :)

I may wear them, I may not it depends on how it is up there, it did show 10-15mph winds also which makes it colder. Im just warning people to be prepared. Im born and rised in the hot Az sun so I may have to wear something, we will see.

Better prepared than not, rather be safe than sorry!
