Title: 2/16/2013 Meeting (Trail Rating 1)
Post by: 11Pro4X on January 12, 2013, 04:26:00 PM
Here is the official thread for the Feb 2013 meeting.

Tucson Camping Trip!

Weekend full of wheeling, camping, and hanging out!  Who is in for this?

Here is the location we will be heading for.  There will be signs, and lots of Nissan vehicles, should be a great time!

Google Maps (https://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=Phoenix,+AZ&daddr=32.302967,-110.620726&hl=en&sll=32.343421,-110.556107&sspn=0.492517,0.891953&geocode=Fblh_gEdy-JR-SnLeaFQ7RIrhzGsG0o1-MdpjA%3BFXfn7AEdyg9o-Q&t=h&mra=prev&z=9)

Rev has suggested an alternative rout due to construction along the original route.   HERE (https://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=Phoenix,+AZ&daddr=32.3375131,-111.0581915+to:32.3082456,-110.8443845+to:32.302967,-110.620726&hl=en&ll=32.274942,-110.964661&spn=0.465023,0.541077&sll=32.291268,-110.853939&sspn=0.058118,0.067635&geocode=Fblh_gEdy-JR-SnLeaFQ7RIrhzGsG0o1-MdpjA%3BFWlu7QEd8WJh-SnbffOtMnXWhjE_N-gTE9r6-g%3BFRX87AEdIKZk-SnbNziTN2zWhjHAGL-k0qyMJQ%3BFXfn7AEdyg9o-Q&t=h&mra=dpe&mrsp=2&sz=14&via=1,2&z=11&source=gplus-ogsb) is the suggested route.

Current Itinerary

Meeting 5pm
-Rev has decided to run for VP.  This will need to be voted on during the meeting.

Night Run (after meeting if there is interest)

I'd be up for either of those locations, hopefully there wont be too much snow this time lol. What about the Rim? Might be pretty cold at night though for camping. I'd rather camp the night of the 15th, my 21st birthday is the 17th so I want to be back in the valley for that.

I'm ok with the evening of the 15th for camping as well.  Is it too early to start talking about fishing?

What's everyone thinking about a Tucson trip for the Feb meeting?

Run Charlou (SP) Gap and camp that weekend?

Just an FYI.  Monsoons took their toll on the Gap Rd. this past season.  I have been through on the moto a few times since and I personally would not take my rig through as it sits now.  I would say minimum requirement for the trail currently is sliders and a rear locker.  There are some hill climbs on the north end that have gotten really washed out also.

I think I should be in for the February meeting wherever it happens to be. I'm trying to schedule some time off work around then so things should be cool for wherever ;D

Did you say sliders and a rear locker? Check! Hmm...and washed out hill climbs??? No problem there, that makes it even funner. :)

Reddington Pass Rd in Tucson.

Its a camping trip some bring yourself and whatever camping gear you have.

If you are coming out I will make sure I can be there Friday and we will have a precursor to Moab HAHA.

Benn will post up GPS stuff from last year where we camped.

We could do Chiva Falls. Just about all rigs can run it with maybe some spotting on some spots and plenty of places to have a little fun on some different lines. And we can always run out to Chimney rock and mess around on the playground.

Thats the same as last year correct?  If it is then I am cool with it. There are a lot of new people so that will be good.  Nothing to extreme and then Sunday we can run Charlou Gap?

It's never too early. Too bad there's no fish where we're going. There is a decent sized cow pond that might have some bass and bluegill in it that I've heard word of mouth on the way to chimney rock. I might bring a pole and test it out...

I have surgery the week before, so will still be recovering. I think I'll be able to come out for a day, probably Saturday, and if the gods (and meds) help, stay that night.

I might have misunderstood during the meeting, but was there a point of time/place for the actual "meeting" or is this just going to be non-stop camping/wheeling type of affair?

No offense but this club is based outta the Phoenix area. Which I have no problem with. I just have to make the trip to phoenix unlike 90% of the people that live in Phoenix. Just to put it in perspective. 300 miles both ways just about to Marcins and back round trip. which means about $60-80 depending on gas prices and thats if I dont go anywhere in Phoenix but both past times in Phoenix we've gone on trails. So thats about 100 miles roundtrip each trail run because one was Table Mesa and one was Backroad to Crown King. It adds up fast.

I do not consider the club to be based out of phoenix.  But we have members both in flag and tucson, so it is a common destination.  I plan on mixing up the meeting location as best as possible and keeping them on the weekends to make it possible for most people to come.  I understand that gas is a fortune and you wont be able to make all the events.  As it stands, I am taking my gf and 2 dogs, or else I would say drive to Phoenix and I'll pay the rest of the way.  Maybe Marcin would carpool you if that would help, either way I know it's money and if you don't make it I understand.  Don't take Marcin's shit talking to heart.

Definitely, I know if we're planning on having meetings in Flagstaff for three months in a row during the summer I should be able to make one of them, but definitely not all of them. Maybe we should set up some kind of system... especially for the officers who miss any official meeting portion of the event? If anyone has a good camcorder (Mine doesn't work without a power supply) we could film the meeting and post them to a private YouTube channel so that everyone who was unable to attend can still get the gist of what happened and make any notes as needed for their position?

Just a thought ;D

The camping will be held somewhere we can all get to with 2 wheel drive stock Xs, and no CB would be required for that.  There will also be separate trail runs they may require a better built rig, I don't personally know the runs down there as this will be my first time camping in Tucson.  However, I can bring a couple 2 way radios for you to use while on the trail if we do something your rig is capable of.  Welcome to the club and I look forward to meeting you on the trip.

One thing we would like anyone who can to bring is fire wood.  It will be chilly and AZXC has to have an awesome fire.  I will be loading up a hitch carrier but that wont be nearly enough.  Here are some places to pick up firewood cheaply in Phoenix.

Highs in the mid 70's and Lows in the low 40's upper 30's!

Do not forget to bring firewood, the club will be providing some but if the temps dip we will need a lot.  Also please bring water lots of water we will need to leave the campsite better than we found it and put out the fire completely!

So who is all in for this?

I am leaving Sat morning early from PHX.  So post up if you are leaving Fri or want to caravan early Saturday?

Also just wanted to give everyone a heads up, I know the Google Map is telling everyone to take Grant off I-10 to cut through town but Grant is under major construction right now. Getting past Prince on I-10 and Grant Rd through Stone is just junk, not to mention through that area is like 50 stop lights.

My suggestion would be cutting through the north end of town. Get off on Ina Rd and take it all the way east to Kolb and then Kolb/Sabino Canyon down to Tanque Verde. You'll save a lot of time getting through town that way. Just watch out for the speed camera on Ina past 1st Ave.

Here's the altered route Map (https://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=Phoenix,+AZ&daddr=32.3375131,-111.0581915+to:32.3082456,-110.8443845+to:32.302967,-110.620726&hl=en&ll=32.274942,-110.964661&spn=0.465023,0.541077&sll=32.291268,-110.853939&sspn=0.058118,0.067635&geocode=Fblh_gEdy-JR-SnLeaFQ7RIrhzGsG0o1-MdpjA%3BFWlu7QEd8WJh-SnbffOtMnXWhjE_N-gTE9r6-g%3BFRX87AEdIKZk-SnbNziTN2zWhjHAGL-k0qyMJQ%3BFXfn7AEdyg9o-Q&t=h&mra=dpe&mrsp=2&sz=14&via=1,2&z=11&source=gplus-ogsb)

I will be leaving Friday evening from east Phoenix. I can pick up some firewood for the clan. Are we camping where the drop pin on google maps is?

Here's directions to the camp area once you start heading up Redington Rd. Go up the switchbacks and pass the two trashed up shooting areas. The road will start heading north, take a turn to the east, then north again. You'll pass a cattle guard. The rd will turn east again and there will be a corral on the left; keep going. At the very next cattle guard, there will be a side rd that shoots off to the left and kind of quartering back; turn here. If you're on the main road and you come to an atv/horse staging area on your left with a bathroom, you went too far.

Avi and Shawn, you guys pick an area. There's an area right next to the main road after turning left but it might be taken. Shawn, you remember our spot last year, but there's a ton of glass and whatnot there. Maybe just next to the road in the grass there next to that spot and we can just use that for the bonfire? If you head back on that road a bit more there's a cattle pond and maybe some flatter, cleaner ground, but I'm not sure if it'll be big enough for everybody. You guys decide. You both have my number if you need directions Friday or whatever.

Also, are we wheeling Saturday or Sunday? Something small Saturday then spend more time Sunday? Chiva falls? Just go to chimney and mess around on the playground?

See you guys Saturday! Bring your jackets!

I'll do my best to find a primo spot. I need lots of flat ground to set up the condo. ;)

Curse that 40%! Sorry to hear that.

Though how is everyone's schedule looking? Who's planning on arriving today, and who's tomorrow?

Well, since we're wheeling Saturday, I might not be camping sat night. Heather isn't feeling good and Harper is feeling a little sick. Me and Lee will still be there Saturday and hang out by the fire for a while.

If you guys are coming out today.  The GPS cords are off a little when u get to the cattle guard where you turn left, make the turn left and just keep going about a quarter of a mile and you'll see us on the right.

I found the camp site and hung around from 1-6 but no one came by. I know the meeting was supposed to be at 5 so I came back to town for a signal to see if everything was alright. My stupid Sprint gets no reception after Houghton Rd.

This may sound weird, but put your phone next to your CB antenna - it will sometimes get a signal when you normally can't.  I've actually done this out on the trails near Lake Pleasant, and it worked.  Worth a try at least.

We're at the camp now, the trail took a little longer than expected... Come on up! Brats are cooked and ready, and there's plenty more!

I think the only damage was Alex lost a D-ring on the way down and his chain was hanging. Didn't notice till he got home since it wasn't dragging.

I'm still upset that I missed the wheeling, though I did get a good hike in around the camp site, I'll get those shots up in a sec.

It was great getting to meet at least a few of you guys, hope to meet everyone else sometime soon ;D
