The Coronado Mountains off of Reddington Pass
« on: February 08, 2013, 09:26:58 AM »
The Tucson trip is a week away and I was going through some photos of times I've been out in the Coronados east of town and thought I'd share the ones I have of an ATV adventure my dad and I went through from about two years ago.

Before anyone asks, these were taken off of trails that connect to Reddington Pass, but we were pretty far down some of those trails. I'd say most of these were 2-15 miles off the actual pass.

First off, these are what we used to get there, a pair of Yamaha Grizzly 660s. These things are beasts and go anywhere.

But this is some of the great scenery in the area that we have to look forward to:

There were lots of different kinds of terrains on the trails, lots of climbs and steep decends. All in all the trip through there was really cool and enjoyable

...until this happened.

I hit a loose gravel patch going around the corner of a conical turn and slid right off the path. Tip for others: ATVs are heavy when they're rolling over you... So if it's going over, let go and let it go without you.

We pulled out the winch cable and tow straps and started pulling it right back up the side of the mountain. The interesting bit was while we were cleaning up all the debris that fell off my ATV we found parts and equipment from other vehicles in the same spot.

Once we got it to a better spot we assessed the damage. The bars were all bent and pinching body panels as you can see, and one of the control arms was bent a little too though not too badly.

Mechanically though, it started back up and I actually was able to drive it back to the truck. We fixed up all the bent parts and I still take this ATV out to the trails whenever I get the chance.

I still love going out to these kinds of places. It's so great getting to see things that you know only a handful of people will ever see ;D
