Thank you to those that reached out and visited while I was in the hospital. I still have a long way to go, but I will be back on the trails soon.

After the winch use in Tucson I began wanting to look for more information on how to do pulls safely.   One of those pulls was a little shady and probably could of been done better.

Funny that these videos only address winch use on flat ground.  When you use a winch in terrain as we do they do not address that.

This is true, the second video shows him winching up an incline, and he suggests turning the wheels and holding the foot break for maximum traction.  I think that is fairly sound advice.

Yah, that is the most common mistake I think.  They leave it in park, which means a little parking pin is stopping the whole car.  Or maybe they leave the hand break on, which is a manual drum break which also sucks.  You need to be using the full power of your vehicles hydraulic brakes.

I've always though a winch set up properly should have a switch run to the inside of the cabin too, glad to hear that's not just me having an ocd ;D

Most winches come with a hand operated controller with a cable long enough to be sitting in the vehicle to winch.  That's where I always sit with foot on brake and car in neutral when I'm winching!

That is why I posted the vids, it is good information on how winches work, how they are intended to be used, and how to safely use them for people who didn't know, like me.

Where it says "Steel Beam" think Hi-Lift handle. The "timbers", can be two other handles, or similarly strong supports pounded down vertically in front of the "Dead Man".

Who knows? if the snows deep enough out in front, throw a snatch strap down like this, and attach a clevis/shackle at the ends and pull from there.. Desperate times<Desperate measures

I have warn winch on my vehicle. it's nice to see some info about the proper usage of winches
