Sycamore Creek Saturday Mar 2
« on: February 25, 2013, 06:30:32 PM »
This Saturday, March 2nd. We are going to Sycamore Creek for Quads/rails and dirtbikes. Will drive down to the creek bottom and unload and just ride around from there. Anyone is welcome to just come in there ride and do trials on it but we will be on smaller vehicles. Saturday has a high of 82 and a low of 53 and lots of sunshine so it will be a perfect day.

Meet spot will be the McDonald's on Country Club and McKellips just south of the 202, NE corner @ 1000 and roll out by 1030.

Post up if you would like to join us. So far I have four people not including those from AZXC.

Trail Characteristics

Staging areas on the north and south ends of the recreation area just off Highway 87 provide convenient access to the Sycamore Creek trails. You'll find a wide range of riding experiences in the area. Steep, gravelly hills rise above Sycamore Creek's sandy stream bed. Ride through desert terrain dotted with saguaros and presided over by the majestic Four Peaks. Race down chutes sculpted into the desert hillsides by water drainage and erosion, jump berms and wind your way up rock-strewn hillsides.

Hazards

Novice riders can find themselves in trouble at Sycamore Creek as deft maneuvering is required in locations having steep drop-offs, tight turns and boulder-strewn trails. Loose gravel is also a factor on some steep hillsides. Blind chutes should be approached with caution. You'll also find rattlesnakes in the area, which frequently hide from the hot sun under rocks and bushes. In spring, they can be found sunning themselves in the open and can be slow to get out of the way when first emerging from winter hibernation. Most snakebites in the area occur when people attempt to catch, kill or poke them with sticks.

There is a cool little trail that takes you from Upper Sycamore Creek down to Lower Sycamore Creek, nothing to challenging, rate it a 2.5-3, it takes you up 2 little hill climbs and weaves in and out of small narrow trail areas with a little rock garden area and a lot of open creek bed sand at Lower Sycamore.

Or there is a Trail on the Upper side of Sycamore called Rocker Panel Pass that Ive never run but have been told is very good. A friend rated it 3 out of 4 and would require sliders and skids but very fun and passable by our X's. If a group wants to get together for that I would be in and we could meet up with 07offroadx later in the day.

Post up if you want to do trail run.

It is a wide range of trails. You can follow us down to the creek bottom and explore from there. The Widowmaker is right by where we will off load and it is pretty interesting taking an X up the numerous trails. Lots of sand and room to play. Might even have water flowing depending on the snow melting up north. Thats when it flows pretty good. I will most likely drive around a bit in my X as well as the little mini bike I will have. Was planning on this just being a family and friends thing but I figured what the hell would be nice to meet some of ya'll finally. So hopefully some of you show up. Will be a good day.

Trail takes an hour tops. if you decide to do the trail I will do it too. If nobody is interested I will just stick the toys. Trails is easy about a dozen creek crossing and multiple rock beds. Couple challenging spots as well but there is always an easy way and a hard way. Just let me know already!! I always go offroading alone would love a good group.

Well a lot of you missed out! The dirtbike I was riding let loose of the rear tire so I had to ditch it and continue in my X. Was a lot of fun, had a lot of people out there, and was there from 0800-1700. Was a good day.
Prepare for the worst; Hope for the best.
