Please Help!! Code C1187
« on: March 06, 2013, 03:20:54 PM »
I could use some help on this issue as well. Same symptoms and code in exception to the abnormal voltage. Only code is C1187(Diff Lock Controller NG). Disconnected the control unit(under the dash) cleaned it up and reconnected it. Disconnected the two sets of wires going into the dif and did the same thing. No wires look damaged nothing out of the ordinary. Happened to me just driving down the road at around 45-55mph. Wasn't in 4hi or 4lo and the diff switch was off and VDC was on as normal. No lights on dash. Then the VDC+ABS+SLIP lights came on after the diff and VDC lights flashed sporadically and not consistent. Seems as though its a loose wire. But I can't find a darn thing wrong.
Prepare for the worst; Hope for the best.

Well the issue was my Diff lock control unit under the dash. Computer was fried. New one cost me $612 dollars and some change. For parts and labor through dealership they wanted $790 dollars. I just ordered the part and will install it myself. Hopefully this fixes my issue.
Prepare for the worst; Hope for the best.

ugh, I think it should be illegal to hire guys for 12 bucks an hour and charge customers 150 or whatever.  Because this kind of trouble shooting happens.

Well they told me that the switch in the diff is fried and and caused computer to fail. So I have to replace the switch in the diff which is 300 bucks. So according to the dealership and technician the computer was bad as well. Part takes 5 days to get here so because I will be in Vegas I will get the work done on Monday. If anyone gets code C1187 and has a bunch of lights on just do the switch in the diff first. Part I think was about $130, which isn't bad I think.
Prepare for the worst; Hope for the best.
