  • Conundrum: Wow, with all the rain I've been in as well as flooding in the X on Fat Tire, I have a new issue. Set light blinking rapidly and goes away after restarting the engine. I did a little research and I guess the cruise actuator can get nasty and seems plausible since I went through a puddle on purpose on the right hand side and that made the set light for cruise start flashing again. I'll check it out after the rain stops. lol Have fun and be safe out there everyone.

El Camino Del Diablo?
« on: August 08, 2013, 05:43:59 PM »
Anybody ever make this run? I am thinking of doing it. Is it safe that far down by the border? I hear you need permits?  Can it be done in a day?

People will tell you its not safe, but its mainly because they are paranoid that a Mexican gang will come and kill them while they sleep and steal their trucks. While it might not be the safest road, its by no means unsafe, and is constantly patrolled by Border Patrol. From what I've heard, its really a 2 day trip at minimum and shouldn't be done during the summer (too hot). I've been meaning to take it for the past year or so, but I've never had the time to. I've also heard that its recommended to go with at least one other truck because of how remote the road is. I'm pretty sure you need a permit to be on the Goldwater Air Force Range.

There was a tread on here at one point Jason Deadpilot was planing it. Yes you do need permits and no more than 10 trucks can go at a time. It's highly recommended at least 2 trucks. I'll look for tread for you because I want to also do it.

I guess it got lost last year during our website blow up. He did so much work and got some much info. It's a shame it's gone.

I am not certain but I do beleive the limit is 4 trucks per group and you need permits for the Goldwater Range, and the Cabeza Prieta wildlife Refuge. There is an office in Yuma and in Ajo so they are easily obtained at either end. Most people do it in three days as there are two prime areas to camp along the route. I havent done it but from what I have heard BP pretty much keeps a close eye on you for safety.

I would definitely be interested in running it one of these days.

I would be in on this run, pending date/schedule. It is the beginning neck of the AZ traverse that I have slowly been maping and prepping for. Hopefully by next year I will have pre-run each of the sections and can then do the whole stretch at once.
