Veteran's Day Weekend Trail Run
« on: November 01, 2013, 08:30:00 PM »
Okay, PitSnipe's been bugging me to make a thread about this.

Either Sunday or Monday (10th or 11th), I want to run the Oatman Massacre Site trail that's down near Gila Bend.

Here's a trip report from one of the Jeep sites: http://www.jk-forum.com/forums/jk-trails-tales-71/oatman-massacre-site-arizona-123019/

2WD friendly trail, should be great weather right now. I highly doubt the river will have any water in it. Depending on who's going and what side of town they're on, meeting up around 8:30/9 since the temps aren't as high. I can do either Sunday or Monday since it's a federal holiday weekend, so whatever day can get the most attendance is when it'll be scheduled for.

It looks like a short fun trail, so post up if you're interested.

Thanks for name dropping.

I'm  totally down for this. History and wheeling and maybe since its a short run we could all stop for lunch somewhere.

Sunday works great for me. If we go Monday ill have to bring my daughter.

Lets get dirty!

Name dropping? Any time :)

And as long as we don't stop for lunch in Gila Bend... heh. That place is a dump! But some of my coworkers say great things about a little Mexican food joint there, so that's an option.

I have done this trail.  Like you said, its an easy trail, even for my stock X.  The Gila wasnt flowing when I went, so I didnt get muddy.  There is another burial sight real close to the Oatman sight.  The names on the graves where Fourr.  A dad and his 2-3 children. Its right off the road to Oatman, so its worth stopping.(1877)
https://www.zeemaps.com/map?group=720261&location=Arizona&add=1#  I marked the approx area where the Fourr site is. (lighter blue marker)  All other markers on this map where a test, they are not accurate.
A couple of pics.

Thanks for the pics, Stoic V! We'll have to hunt down that second grave marker too.

Either day works for me, so I'm still down to do it Monday.

Changing the start time to 10:00 as long as it's ok with everyone, otherwise I'm fine with going out at the original 8:30 time. It shouldn't be too hot.

The directions we'll be attempting to take: http://www.azoffroad.net/#/oatman-massacre-trail/4559541177

I plan on just seeing the massacre and gravesite markers, but there's also the option of the petroglyphs too.

There's a Circle K at I-10 and Litchfield, right by Wendy's, meet up at 10, roll by 1030?

Yes, Monday! Looking forward to it.

So far, it looks like there will be 5 trucks going. Three Xterras, a Toyota and a Jeep. I do love variety haha.
