  • Conundrum: lol, they're contagious and more lights coming on, worrying to see the oil pressure indicator and also the windshield washer fluid lights, however I'll just wait and see if it goes away when things dry out. Good thing I took it through emissions this morning. Never Fails. lol

  • Conundrum: Wow, with all the rain I've been in as well as flooding in the X on Fat Tire, I have a new issue. Set light blinking rapidly and goes away after restarting the engine. I did a little research and I guess the cruise actuator can get nasty and seems plausible since I went through a puddle on purpose on the right hand side and that made the set light for cruise start flashing again. I'll check it out after the rain stops. lol Have fun and be safe out there everyone.

work that needs to be done
« on: January 14, 2014, 10:02:47 PM »
So brought my car in because of some smoke coming out from under the hood.  Found out I needed the gasket covers replaced, spark plugs replaced, power steering pump is cracked, brakes are f***ed, and timing belt needs replacing.  I had them fix the gasket covers because I didn't think I was up for that job but anyone have any experience with the other stuff? He quoted me at around 2K for all the fixes.  Thanks guys! and ladies!

gasket covers for what? the valves? if you never cracked them, they should be fine. Sounds fi$hy to me..

I do agree something sounds off.  If it is over 100k u do need to get the timing belt done, as well as plugs.  But you should be able to at least do plugs yourself.  Also, what does it mean brakes are f###ed up?  u need new pads? rotors? calipers?  It is kind of hard to tell you for sure what needs to be done, sounds like he is throwing the kitchen sink at it.

so I kept forgetting to look at the receipt.  I had the valve cover gaskets replaced, the intake gaskets replaced, and the plugs replaced.  I am not sure what is up with the brakes but I know something is wrong.  When I brake it pulls HARD to the left.  I think he said one of the calipers was just hanging.  That was a good pucker factor.  I just rolled over 100K so I want to get that timing belt done.  I need to get under her and check it out because my power steering is leaking somewhere too.

If it is pulling hard to the left it is likely there is more wrong than a sticking caliper.  Pull your left front brake, my guess is the brake hardware is screwed up and your brakes are wearing wrong or you are missing a caliper bolt.
