Wild Burros Killed Near Lake Pleasant
« on: January 29, 2014, 09:13:06 PM »
All, I just got this press release from the BLM:

"(PHOENIX, AZ. January 28, 2014) — Federal Law Enforcement Officers today seek the public’s assistance in an investigation of wild burro shootings north west of Phoenix, Arizona.

A concerned citizen notified Federal Officers on Sunday January 26, 2014 that two mature burros were found dead west of Castle Hot Springs Road from an apparent shooting.  Federal Officers believe the crime was committed about 2:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
The incident occurred within the Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Lake Pleasant Herd Management Area, located northwest of Phoenix in Maricopa County and southern Yavapai County, which is actively managed for wild burros.

“The BLM seeks information from anyone who saw shooting activity off of Castle Hot Springs Road Sunday or who may have heard about this crime.  We are gathering evidence and are committed to the protection and management of wild burros and horses; we take this criminal violation seriously.  This is why we are asking for the public’s assistance,” affirms Rem Hawes, BLM’s Hassayampa Field Manager.  Wild burros and horses are protected by law under the Wild Free - Roaming Horses and Burros Act of 1971, as amended.

People who have any information may call:  1-800-637-9152.  All calls are confidential.  If convicted, the perpetrator(s) are subject to a fine of up to $2,000 and/or imprisonment for up to one year, or both, for each violation."

Please pass this on to other forums - we need to find these people and hold them accountable.  This is not the first time someone has shot and killed the wild burros in that area.

The reward has been raised to $5,000:

"(Feb. 4, 2014)— The Humane Society of the United States, through its Platero Project, is offering a
$5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for shooting two wild burros last week off Castle Hot Springs Road.
