more needed fixes....
« on: March 13, 2014, 03:21:15 PM »
So I have learned the hard way never to buy a car from New England...  Had my oil changed today (full synthetic unstuck my bad lifter!!!!!!) and they said I need new wheel bearings, drag link, and outer tie rods.  So my question to yall is how hard is this stuff to do myself? They quoted me an obnoxious number and I am pretty handy with a wrench and my hands.  any and all input helps!

You need new bearings on all four?? Damn dude. I would do the bearings and tie rods yourself personally, but then you'll need an alignment after the tie rods. I know nothing about the drag link though.

And for that matter, what on earth did you pay someone to do your oil change for!

Wheel bearings/tie rods are cake. You just need an alignment after.

Yeah, exactly what they said.

Can you hear your wheel bearings making noise? Also is your steering sloppy?

I would get a 2nd opinion. Being in the auto business I know what is like to recommend a fix that really doesn't need to be done.

well my gear box is just a slow leak.  I keep it topped off and it seems responsive enough.  eventually it will all be replaced but i need to get the issues fixed first.  I might replace a lot of it at once just because it is rusty and going to be a bitch to get it all apart put it together, take it apart, put it together etc
