  • xterra07: P0448 - I think that was the code on my 2007 that kept appearing 5-10 times a year, I cleared it with ODBC II software. Mechanic said it effects emissions but I passed emissions with it.

Gen 1 Body Lift

Hey everyone,I have a 2004 Xterra, I cranked torsion bars, leveled it but am looking into a body lift so I can get a little larger tires on. Not looking at anything crazy, another 2" or so. was wondering if there are any lift kits that are better or more easily installed than others. just curious on getting a few tips to help me out. I was also wondering how long it would take to install approximately with two guys working on it. I also assume I will need the bumper relocation and steering xtension kits as well???? thank you for your input

I have a 2002 and I put my 2" body lift on myself.  It took me a long time because my rig is rusty as a mofo being from New Hampshire.  If your rig isn't too rusty it can be done in around 5-7 hours give or take how many beers you drink.  If you are doing only 2", you don't need to extend steering.  You will need to relocate front and rear bumper which sucks.  ALSO! don't make the mistake I did.  Detach the heater core hoses from your engine or you will break your heater core which is a GINORMOUS PIA! I would piece the kit together yourself.  The AC one is unnecessarily expensive. I put mine together for ~$70 bucks.  There is my 2 cents

Well, it depends on how big the tires you want are, but I have 32s with only the torsion bar cranked and larger shackles in the back. I don't like how body lifts change the actual height personally, but it's all personal preference I guess!

I did this a few years back when I had a first gen.

I agree the "kits" are super expensive compared to what they can actually be put together for. And I second WHPIVxterra I didnt disconnect either and cracked the hose, and it was a pain to fix.

It can be done by yourself. But having a buddy is always helpful. And good tools is always a plus. I think with two guys that have some idea of whats going on a good 5-6 hours will be plenty of time.

awesome, thanks everyone for the replys. ill keep looking into it and see what ill decide to do. just want a good ride, looks nice on 32s without the wheel wells filled up. ill keep looking. thanks
