Where to buy Grade 8 hardware?
« on: July 29, 2014, 03:33:54 PM »
I sold my hitch and the guy was going to back out if I didnt include the hardware, so now I'm in need of hardware. I'm not sure where I can go to get the grade 8 stuff for my bumper.

Specifcally what I need are

4 m14x1.5x40 hex bolts grade 8.
2 m12/1.25x35 hex bolts grad 8.

I'm out at 59th Ave and 101 so anything out that way would be preferred.

I think home depot sells grade 8 bolts but as for sizes not sure what all they carry.

Home Depot has a very minimal selection of metric sizes. At least the one I went to. For random nuts and bolts I've been having to go to ace, but I didnt see any grade 8 at ace.

Ace hardware carries grade 8 - for the SAE bolts (which are sized in inches), and Metric grade 10.9 (which are sized in millimeters).  I've bought many high strength bolts from the Ace on Indian School and 32nd st (ish), and also the Ace on Deer Valley and 35th Ave.  I'm sure the other Ace hardware stores also carry them.

If you can't find what you are looking at Ace, then you could always check out Copper State Nut and Bolt company.  They have both, as well.  I've bought from their store on Bell and I-17, but they have several valley locations.

If all else fails, you could try Fastenal.  I've bought a few bolts from them (on Deer Valley and 7th Ave).

I'm having a hard time finding what I need.

No one is having the fine thread so it's making it difficult.

Ya, it metric there isn't much over grade 8.8 at ace, or home depot, and lowes is worse.  Worst case Mcmastercar can get it done, if you need it now your nissan dealership should have it.  Probably 3 bucks a bolt though.

So after trying numerous places the place I ended up getting my stuff was at Peoria Nissan. I got what I needed for $6.

But this will not always be the case. As I was walking in a technician stopped me and said "nice rig, why on earth are you coming into a dealership for parts?" I told him I was those specific bolts, and he said "oh, hold on a sec I'll be right back."

he came back with all the bolts I needed and said "here, you're all set." I was shocked that this just happen. Haha I gave him what cash I had on me (a sad $6). But he was happy and had me on my way with the factory bolts.

I was at O'reilly's the other day, and surprisingly they have some grade hardware. Metric and standard. So if anyone is looking for some pretty common size hardware give O'reilly's a shot.
