  • downs44: Got an 06 that just went through SMOD. Got everything replaced. Now my low oil pressure light is flickering on after the engine warms up and the truck is at idle. Doing some digging on the forums it looks like a common problem is the rear timing cover gallery gasket leaking and causes the symptoms. Looks like a 15 hour or so repair for a $50 part. Was wondering if anyone else has had this issue and any words of advise. To save some dialogue, the oil pressure sensor is about a year old and I changed the oil and filter after i noticed the light and that did not fix the issue.

Well, wife can't take the time off so I'll be attending solo.  Count me in.

This will be my first multi day journey off road so do I need to bring some extra fuel?  If so I need to start looking for gas containers.

I'm pretty sure from the map so long as you fuel up in Tucson city limits you'll be good. We aren't exactly going off range.

How appropriate that your avatar is a low fuel gauge.

Well, we are out.

Unfortunately a $2,000 vet bill, plus my upcoming transmission rebuild has killed hope of attending this year.

Damn it John, you and Daphne are the #1 people I wanted to see and have a beer with...Well I guess I got to wait until May. :'(

Us too Sunny...really sorry we are going to miss this.

We shouldn't need to do any prerunning.  I have been exploring those trails up there for 15 years.  They are pretty rocky and don't change all that much with the rain.  There have been a bunch of other groups running the trail recently also and I haven't heard of anything unusual.

I did get the chance yesterday to drive up to the campsite at least.  The main road is a bit rough from the rain but the campsite is still accessible in 2wd.

Well I have some bad news as well, I broke my rack and pinion in half this on Saturday along with a CV joint. I don't think I will have it fixed before the trip.

First I blew the CV going over an obstacle, then as I was reversing, the truck slid/landed hard and sound the steering wheel at the same time causing it bust.

Bummer.  I replaced my rack a few years ago with one from Rock Auto (my stock rack sprung a leak).

Does anybody know if the campsite and the trail leading in are accessible with a trailer?  I'm a real wimp and can't sleep on the ground anymore so I was thinking about renting a trailer to take out there so I didn't have to drive all the way back to town for a hotel.

Why not just put the back seats down and put a air up mattress or a small regular mattress in the back!?
