Camping/Star Gazing Oct 24th
« on: October 07, 2014, 10:20:43 PM »
I have been looking for a moonless night to spend in the desert star gazing.  Looks like the one coming up on the 24th would be a great opportunity to get out.  I plan on heading out that evening and packing light, probably just some cots and sleeping bags.  No idea where to go as of yet, hopefully within an hour or so of phoenix but far enough away to be quiet and away from the lights.  Might make a small fire and have a couple of beers.  I plan on leaving early in the morning.  Let me know if anyone would like to come along or has a good idea of where to go.

I would be real interested.   My oldest boy was bummed about not going to CANVAZ.   What about the sheeps bridge area,  looked like there was a large spot in the photos to setup camp

I was thinking of trying Mt. Ord area, never camped there before.

I was going to recommend Mt Ord. I've been going there quite often lately. At the top just before the gate for the tower is a small trail you can drive up about 500 yards to a great spot. Great view of the stars, roosevelt lake, and phoenix in the distance. Also, the trees is a nice change of scenery for a place so close.
