New Xterra From The Far West
« on: December 23, 2014, 05:39:27 PM »
Hello and Happy Holidays AZXC,

My friends and family call me Chuy (pre-StarWars) I recently picked up a white 2nd gen Xterra as an early Christmas gift to myself and so far I am loving it! I have owned a few Nissan's in the past and they were always a blast off road and as a DD. My first real off road and overland trips into Mexico where in my 88' Nissan Pathfinder as a teenager, and wow was that little two door a beast and ultra reliable. I have owned or driven just about every marque of 4x4 on the earth and was a recent Toyota/Land Cruiser/fanboy, but I have returned to the dark side.

Recently I was in the market for a new daily driver 4x4 and decided to test drive an Xterra on a whim after nearly settling on an FJ from the dealership. I instantly had this happy reconnection of memories with my little two door Pathfinder as I test drove the Xterra. I ended up buying it on the spot. I honestly had no idea what I just bought but I knew it got decent mpg's and was a 4x4. For the past couple weeks or so I have been playing catchup on what the Xterra's are all about. Everyday I read, drive or learn something new about this rig and become more impressed.

As of now I donated to become a supporting member and Im turning over my admin duties and ties with my old Land Cruiser club to focus on the Xterra and hopefully hit a few trails or trips this coming year. I live way out here in Buckeye so Im close to the desert but far from a lot of the trails in AZ. My favorite area to explore and off road is the Florence Junction area but I really want to do CK during the winter in snow. I haven't been in a few years.

First things first I want to get a lift on this thing and some 33's maybe 285/75/r16 or 255/85/r16 Im still undecided/researching lifts etc.

Roads? Where we're going, we don't need roads.

Welcome,  the 285s will fit with no lift.  Just a little thing we call the melt mod to push back some plastic in the front wheel wells.

correct about the melt mod, and 285/75/16 is a very common tire size.

As for lifts if you have any questions post them up. Lots of experienced and knowledgeable people here.

and most importantly WELCOME!

Welcome from Surprise. Another fellow west side joins the ranks. Please don't hesitate to ask questions or start your own trail runs. We usually get a few to follow.

Welcome to the club, and thank you for becoming a supporting member.  Let me know if you have any trouble on the forums.  Also, consider stopping by the mod day next Saturday it you have a chance.  It is a good opportunity to meet some of the guys and check out what others have done to their rigs.

Welcome to the club. The first thing I suggest you do is lose the mud flaps and step rails. Have you checked out PRG they specialize in the X and make a really great product. The other thing you can do check out www. but be warned it's dangerous moding can get addictive.

Thanks guys, I think I will pickup some new tires soon try the melt mod and go from there. Can the Xterra run Broken Arrow, Box Canyon, Coke Ovens, Martinez Cabin, and CK in stock form without any damage or clearance issues? The Xterra feels like it site fairly high stock.
