Waterfowl Land in Gila River south of Buckeye
« on: February 15, 2015, 02:52:17 PM »
Does anyone know about this? My dad is a huge duck hunter and lives in Wisconsin. He heard about a place near Buckeye that has duck hunting. I've done some research but haven't found much. He's coming out in March and Id like to take him there to check it out. I think I may ride out and do some recon. If anyone knows about this your knowledge would be appreciated.

So my coworker was useless. But I was doing some research on AZGF website and it looks like waterfowl season ended Jan 25th but opens back up in October. And I saw on the PDF of info that there's a spot in Florence you can hunt but its on military grounds and have to coordinate with the Florence reserves for times to go so you're not in the middle of live fire drills

Before dawn on Saturday I headed out to find this area. I ended up taking the I10 west to the 85 south. Once you cross the Gila River there is a turn off to the west. There is a sign as you enter. It says Robbins Butte Wildlife Area. I continued and came across a staging area where a couple of people were hanging out. I talked to them about the area. They didn't really know about the duck hunting. They did tell me that there is some trap and skeet shooting that that goes on. They were there doing a Coon Dog training event. I searched the area and found a lot of road closed signs and signs that said no motorized vehicles. I need to do some more research and maybe email one of the Duck Clubs that uses the area.

All in all it was a pretty neat area. After living here for 20 years I found a new place that was close to home. I will return.
