  • downs44: Got an 06 that just went through SMOD. Got everything replaced. Now my low oil pressure light is flickering on after the engine warms up and the truck is at idle. Doing some digging on the forums it looks like a common problem is the rear timing cover gallery gasket leaking and causes the symptoms. Looks like a 15 hour or so repair for a $50 part. Was wondering if anyone else has had this issue and any words of advise. To save some dialogue, the oil pressure sensor is about a year old and I changed the oil and filter after i noticed the light and that did not fix the issue.

Camping for Broken Arrow (April 18, 2015)
« on: March 20, 2015, 01:05:49 AM »
That said someone should probably start a separate camping thread so that we can get a list of who is interested and decide on a location.

Sorry this thread is so late. Seems like there's some considerable interest in camping, so let's talk camping for this trip.

As we know, there are a lot of options open to us. I personally like Ted's suggestion of the Cottonwood area, and driving up from there. I stayed at Dead Horse Ranch State Park for a couple of days mid-February, and it was really nice.

Alternatively, there's trail camping. Two areas, east and west of Sedona aren't too far away.

I'm also camping Saturday night as well for anyone else interested in doing so. Location, of course, is TBD.

7 April 15
Looks like the camping group is going to be split between off-trail and Dead Horse Ranch. I'm sure you guys have each others' number should anything come up while we're out and about, so I'm not worried about that. Just remember to be at the trailhead by 9. :)

Meeting: For those meeting and driving up from Phoenix we will be meeting at the McDonalds on Carefree at 8AM and leaving no later then 8:30.

Those of you planning on camping, meet at the trail head no later than 9AM, and the group from Phoenix will run second.

Let's hear it!

FirstXRS- 17th & 18th at Dead Horse Ranch
XTiki -17th & 18th at Dead Horse Ranch
WHPIVxterra - 17th at Dead Horse Ranch
Pinchel - Maaaybe 17th, 18th at Trail
AZTed - 17th & 18th? at Trail

Not sure, depends entirely on what we decide.

If trail camping, I might leave mid-morning and just relax after setting up camp. If camping at a ground, depends on check-in. Dead Horse for example has a 2 pm check-in.

Well, IF, we go and camp the night before we would not be able to leave until late evening, both the wife and I work that day. We may just ending up camping Saturday night somewhere.

Sounds good. If at a campground, just observe the courtesy of keeping the noise down when entering after sundown; we'll save a spot for you. :)

With us (myself and whoever wishes to camp Saturday night), or on your own?

I like the whole Dead Horse Campsite setup.  Looks like a very nice place.  Never been.  Doesn't look too far away from Sedona.  We just got a new SUV tent that hooks up to the back of the X.

Is there a general plan then of people camping in one spot?  A meet up time and place set with the group coming up from Phoenix?  If we settle on Dead Horse, do we need to call for reservations?  I don't know how busy they are this time of year never having camped in AZ.

I think we can be up there by sunset if we jam out of Phx quickly Friday.  Thinking about leaving our tent there and staying Sat night as well.  Seems like a waste to get up there Friday night and not have a chance to enjoy the area, break everything down Sat morning and just leave the place.

Ideally, it would be far more organized to camp together (for those camping) on Friday night. Would probably make Saturday morning easier. No location or time for meeting has been established yet. Reservations at Dead Horse can actually be done online. You get to see the map of the campgrounds and which sites are open. It's car camping for sure, which allows for some very relaxed and modern conveniences, but there's nothing wrong with that from time to time  :). They were busy for Valentine's weekend, but I think that speaks for itself. I was thinking of camping on a trail after the event, but it might be just as enjoyable to return to the campground that afternoon. Good fire pit, grocery nearby (to pick up food and drinks? :)), comfortable showers and restrooms.

The only bad thing about leaving late on Friday is sitting in traffic all the way to Anthem. But that can be figured out later.

A little more info on Dead Horse: http://azstateparks.com/Parks/DEHO/downloads/DEHO_Park_Map.pdf

We would be camping in Blackhawk loop. The best sites imho are 111, 114,115,116. Only two vehicles are allowed per site. Fees are per vehicle. So, it would be $35/vehicle to camp the weekend; Friday night to Sunday morning.

Sounds good to me.  Easier is better this time out.  I got rid of all my camping stuff years ago.  We are just buying stuff again like the tent and dont have a lot of gear.  Having a store nearby an improved camp ground would be ideal for us.  I dont want to RV it but I dont want to survival gear it either.  I am more of the mind to have ice for my drinks post trail run.  Ill look at booking one of the spots you last mentioned.

FirstXRS, did you reserve a bunch of those sites?  All those you mentioned as being better sites were taken already.  I reserved 113 today.
