Wheel size
« on: March 22, 2015, 02:02:45 PM »
Sorry if I didn't see this discussed somewhere else.

But I was curious if you guys have any opinion on the best wheel size on a 1st Gen X.

Mine are currently 15" Would I benefit going to a 16" wheel?

Or should I just throw some better AT tires on there?

33's will be cheaper for a 15" wheel vs a 16"

I can only go up to 31" without a lift and cutting right?

Or can I go up to 32"?

Haven't decided if I'm going to do a PML yet or not. Worried about the front end being too stiff.

Unless you don't want the "standard" sizes (31x10.5, 32x11.5, etc) there isn't much of a point in my opinion to switch. Metric sizes give you more variable size options.

I run 16's on my '02 but it is just personal.  I like the little bit bigger wheel.  doing the pml didnt make the front end too much different.  the rear is stiffer as expected but the ride is still great especially with the bilstines.

I have 17"s and if I had to do it all over again I would have kept my 16"s and or bought 15"s because tires are a lot cheaper and you more or less get the same affect. Right now, buying 17" tires is hella expensive. I personally worry more on the cost than the benefit, and I have yet to read any definitive info that says there is a benefit on smaller versus bigger wheel. Assuming the total circumference is the same.

^^ what he said.  Buying tires for my 16" wheels is about 50-60 bucks more per tire than a 15"
