Hey Everybody,

Sorry for all the questions. This is just the first Xterra I've had and working on getting all the kinks out of it.

I'm reading a Knock Sensor is malfunctioning but I've read that commonly it is just a fuel problem. Needing some high octane boost and possibly getting it cleaned out.

Has anybody had any experience in this? I feel like there isn't as much power as acceleration as there should be but mostly the car is doing okay. I had a miss fire issue but that was solved with new plugs.

I'm just hoping that I an avoid the $650 replacement.

Did you ever resolve this?

I had the knock sensor codes pop up when we drove up to Wyoming and back a few weeks ago. The engine light came on when we got to Utah and they use 85 gas, but when we got to WYoming it went off eventually. It did come back when we came back, but then went off again went we got back to Arizona. Haven't seen it since.

Bad gas can certainly cause the knock sensor to come up, the CEL (Check Engine Light) Doesn't always come on. It can be stored and discarded if the sensor isn't triggered again. 3 driving cycles are what it'll take to clear most emissions related codes if the problem is resolved.

My Mom drives a 15 year old Kia that has like 40K Miles on it. She drives it slow and easy and it starts to get old gas in the tank and gum up the injectors setting off the O2 and Knock sensors. It has a hard time accelerating and runs like crap. Floor it and it goes.

So I put a can of B12 Chemtool in it and drove it around the block in first gear. Cleared up the sluggish acceleration and after several driving cycles it cleared up the codes and my reader showed no issues. The dealer had been charging her for fuel flushes, etc

The knock came up again several months later, but I put another B-12 in and it cleared up again. Stuff works, but you need to change the fuel filter first which was my first diagnostic solution.
