Camping May 1st Camp Verde Area
« on: April 13, 2015, 09:18:05 PM »
A couple of friends and I will be heading up north for a night of sitting around the camp fire, enjoying a couple of drinks and good conversation.

We are planning on camping in the Camp Verde area and are not set on a site yet.  I was hoping to camp West Clear Creek off Bull Pen Rd but looking at the forest service site this area is designated day use only, guess it's been about 5 years since I have been there.  If that is out we will head to Child's Power Plant again.  This is right of the Verde river and a short drive from Fossil creek so bring a swim suit or fishing pool.

This will likely be just Friday night leaving late Saturday as I plan on working Sunday night.  Let me know if anyone has a good camping spot to recommend.

I know a couple people mentioned they were interested at broken arrow.  Please post up and bring a bag or two of wood with you.

That's a bummer to hear about Bull Pen (FR215).  I have been there many times, but the last time I was there was in 2008.  A little farther north on FR 618 (past the turnoff for Bull Pen) is the turnoff for Cedar Flat Road (FR214).  I've camped there quite a few times.  It's dry camping up in the hills, but still a good time.

FYI:  If you keep heading north on FR618, it will bend to the west and eventually connect with I-17 at the junction of SR 179 (the road to Sedona).  Something to keep in mind, if you want to run Sedona, but not pay for camping.

I'm a tentative maybe.  Not sure how late I'll have to work on that Friday, and don't really want to head up there in the dark.  Are you intending on running any trails up there on Saturday, or is this strictly camping and chilling out?  The reason I ask, is that I may be able to blast up there on Saturday morning.

BTW, here is a good link that has a map of the general area, and you can get additional information about the "Day Use" designation for Bull Pen:

This being a Friday night camping trip may work for me since I would need to be home all day sunday while the wife works.

Good to hear, looks like childs power plant will be the spot.  The weather looks perfect, and I'd like to drive up to Fossil Creek Saturday and spend the day jumping off the rope swing.
