  • PitSnipe (Kyle): Wow, I have not heard of this issue. 15 hour job for a $50 part is nuts. Hopefully someone that knows of this issue will speak up.

  • downs44: Got an 06 that just went through SMOD. Got everything replaced. Now my low oil pressure light is flickering on after the engine warms up and the truck is at idle. Doing some digging on the forums it looks like a common problem is the rear timing cover gallery gasket leaking and causes the symptoms. Looks like a 15 hour or so repair for a $50 part. Was wondering if anyone else has had this issue and any words of advise. To save some dialogue, the oil pressure sensor is about a year old and I changed the oil and filter after i noticed the light and that did not fix the issue.

Which engine oil are you running?

I saw this pop up in the chat and was wondering what people are running, and why they differ from the 5w-30 recommendation by nissan.

Just did an oil change for my 2004 4x4 v6 and used 5w-40.

I'm not knowledgeable to know why you would go to a different oil? I always used 5w-30 since that is recommended.

What is teh difference from 5w-20 and all the other grades?

It's all really the weight of the oil that matters. With the heat here you'd want to run a thicker/heavier oil. Nissan recommends 5w30 cuz that's what they think the engine runs best on for generally all climates.
Working for chrysler for almost 10 years now they flip flop from 5w20 and 5w30. The dodge dart is running 0w40.
Old school thinking in AZ is thicker weight in the summer ie 5w40 and thinner in the winter ie 5w20. AZ summer heat is brutal on thinner oil and looses viscosity quicker.

PitSnipe, are you calling me old school?! lol

I've read lots about oils. Nowadays it's all pretty much the same. We aren't in the 30 below weather so anything below 5W really doesn't make sense for the price. I have been using the 5w30 and 10w30 which are the same for the heat.

I decided to go with a higher temp oil 40 because my X has near 210k+ miles and doesn't run as smooth as it used to, so I am sure the 40 will give it more lube. So far it seems to be much quieter. And, the 5w40 is pretty cheap.

Not saying your old Rob. Just saying people don't really run summer and winter oil anymore.
In my mustang I run 20w50 in the summer and 10w30 in the winter.
