Lokka Locker

I just discovered the Lokka Locker for the front axle of my 1st Gen X. I'm sure most people already knew about it but I'm still pretty new to the whole modding thing.

My questions is, has anyone used this before? How is it? Especially since this is also my daily driver.

Is it going to be any different with the front axles locked when just doing light off roading? I don't want to have negative affects when just going out to Saguaro Lake Coves or anything. But I would like to be able to lock out the front end for harder climbing and not spend a great amount.

Any comments, reviews, or advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

All that I know is that Lokka is a mechanical locker. No air or electric need to operate it. Since it is mechanical I would assume that it kicks in when it feels the front wheels slip.

I owned fully locked short wheel base vehicles like the Xterra, and IMHO I would not put an auto locker up front. You may hear the tires chirp when turning in a parking lot or on the street. You can have some adverse affects just with a rear auto locker when driving on dirt roads out to the trail. They tend to pull the vehicle to one side of the road. It also limits your steering when it locks up. On Jeeps auto lockers have been known to cause a few roll overs when going down hills on shorter wheel base vehicles if the driver is not aware of the pull/walking affect when it locks up. If you already have a rear locker or LSD in the rear you should be good to go for the coves. Lots of unlocked vehicles do the coves.

Lokka only sells the front which is what I would be interested in. It is supposed to disengage when turning which is what had me interested. Also, being in the front I would only be locked out when in 4 wheel drive.

And I definitely don't need it for the butcher jones area but interested mostly in some more technical climbing without paying half what I paid for the truck.

I do see what you mean by descending being a tricky situation with them locked out. Might have to rethink these with said.

I don't have any LSD or anything of the sort on my truck. Just trying to find some options to make things work better.

Appreciate the input. Auto lockers may not be what I'm looking for afterall.

Conundrum:
Options for lockers in the Gen1 are still limited as far as I know.

I didn't know they had the Mechanical available for the front and not the rear which is what I would do before considering putting a locker up front. Aussie locker makes them too, but just not for our differentials.

Lockers are only good in the front if you're going to drag your undercarriage over something until the rear tires can bite and if you are going straight. If you don't have skid plates, a locker is probably not the first thing on the list to get. It's the last thing I need to complete my X, I've done everything else. Well I guess it does need paint, but you know it never ends. :)

I ran AZrun XIII which was about 200 miles of low range 4x4 and never needed a locker and went everywhere everyone else did, even without skids I didn't have any issues. You just have to listen to your spotter and trust who you're with to help keep you out of trouble.
