Shooting spot near Lake Pleasant?
« on: August 24, 2015, 11:06:48 AM »
Hey guys, we are going to be spending Labor Day weekend at the Cibola Vista Resort up near Lake Pleasant.  We are meeting some other family up there and they want to do a little shooting while they are in town.  Is there a legal spot near Lake Pleasant that anyone can point me towards?  I know about Ben Avery but we would prefer somewhere to target shoot in the desert.

Anyone have any ideas?  Is it possible to find a spot on the north side of the lake that is legal?  Would be nice to be able to swim also.

There is a spot to shoot just west of the scorpion bay/ lake pleasant entrance at mile marker 18 on carefree highway. It is about a mile or so west. That is my go to spot to shoot. There are places to shoot north of the lake away from trails and water, not too sure how legal it is but I have shot out that way twice. The first option is the best. You shoot into hills and there is also a wash that is a "detour" to the road to lake pleasant. I'll get pins for both spots tomorrow some time.

That sounds like a good spot.  Pins would be great!

Thanks

There are no legal target shooting areas in the Regional Park that surrounds Lake Pleasant.  That being said, there are legal shooting areas nearby.

The area the m.sainz12 mentions is a pretty cool spot.  For me, that spot is where the trails from The Boulders OHV area dumps out (I usually do 3/4 of the loop trail - ending at Morgan City Wash).

Speaking of:  The Boulders OHV is at Mile Marker 11.5 on Carefree Highway.  At The Boulders OHV, there is no target shooting (much of it is State Trust land), but there are areas nearby where shooting is allowed.

And, if you wanted to go up the road a few exits north (I-17, Exit 236), Table Mesa (on the WEST side of the freeway) has many shooting spots, as it is mostly on BLM land.  No big water, though - unless Agua Fria River is flooded, then there would be all kinds of water.
