  • PitSnipe (Kyle): Wow, I have not heard of this issue. 15 hour job for a $50 part is nuts. Hopefully someone that knows of this issue will speak up.

  • downs44: Got an 06 that just went through SMOD. Got everything replaced. Now my low oil pressure light is flickering on after the engine warms up and the truck is at idle. Doing some digging on the forums it looks like a common problem is the rear timing cover gallery gasket leaking and causes the symptoms. Looks like a 15 hour or so repair for a $50 part. Was wondering if anyone else has had this issue and any words of advise. To save some dialogue, the oil pressure sensor is about a year old and I changed the oil and filter after i noticed the light and that did not fix the issue.

2nd Gen 2.5" with UCA's + KO2's 285/75

I had some time to do my lift and Im really liking it. Im getting the bugs worked out and had lots of issues with the install.

Problems:

#1 Rusted bolts, frozen shock mount bolt, tie rod ends inner

#2 shackle sleeves, they were far thicker than OEM, I ruined OEM bushing

#3 bent tie rod end, harbor freight/autozone/ O'reilys tool doesn't fit the inner tie rod

#4 loud popping sound up front I could feel it under the floor board, would not pop with leverage under tire

Solutions:

#1 Grinder and torch to heat up bolts, made it easy as pie

#2 Made a press from longer bolts and washers worked like a dream after I figured this out

#3 replaced and used propane torch to heat and remove, no need for inner tie rod tool just crank the wheel to the left or right to access

#4 loose sway bars, I must have forgotten to torque down, they were very loose, 19mm wrench and 17mm socket to tighten

Lift and new tires are awesome, I hit some trails near the house where the stock X was to low to pass previously. I went over everything very easily.

Im still working out  and researching the crooked steering wheel after alignment. Truck drives straight as an arrow but the corked steering wheel is annoying as a DD, but overall the X looks stock with the lift and bigger tires. I like the look and feel.

Hit up a big o tire. I got an alignment "done" at brake masters, all they did was adjust the toe and my steering wheel was off centered. I was told by brake masters that all lifted rigs are like that. So I took it to big o tire and a technician put it up on the lift and had it out in 15 mins with a straight steering wheel. It was so busy I didnt have a chacne to ask what he did. But long story short I have read its the tech being lazy and not doing a final step to finish hte alignment. I'd take it back to wherever you got it done and tell them to fix it, or take it to another shop.

Thanks I will try them out, I went to Firestone and purchased the lifetime alignment, the first shop at Luke AFB had the steering wheel crooked to the right, the 2nd Firestone off Estrella parkway aligned it crooked to the left. They both said it was maxed out to spec. I don't see how thats possible if it was crooked the other direction previously. The X drives straight and smooth which is #1 right now, but I will give Big O a shot.

The steering wheel being cocked has nothing to do with the alignment pull. To correct the steering wheel you adjust the tie rod ends. So there should be no reason why they cant get it straight.

Thanks, I will be taking it back Monday to address the issue, I thought the tech might be right since the after market tie rod ends were longer from the OEM, but after examining them, it seems they were being lazy, too busy, unexperienced, or lying.

P.S. I saw your pics in the other thread Im surprised I didn't pass you by today on the trails.

**UPDATE**

To make a long story short I took it back, and they fixed the issue. The X drives straight, steering wheel is straight ;D

Sharp Clean rig. I hope I get the results you have achieve.   I am not one for over modification myself. Just functional thought out improvements.

Ours gets crooked too, but the tie-rods are in need of replacement almost.
