  • PitSnipe (Kyle): Wow, I have not heard of this issue. 15 hour job for a $50 part is nuts. Hopefully someone that knows of this issue will speak up.

  • downs44: Got an 06 that just went through SMOD. Got everything replaced. Now my low oil pressure light is flickering on after the engine warms up and the truck is at idle. Doing some digging on the forums it looks like a common problem is the rear timing cover gallery gasket leaking and causes the symptoms. Looks like a 15 hour or so repair for a $50 part. Was wondering if anyone else has had this issue and any words of advise. To save some dialogue, the oil pressure sensor is about a year old and I changed the oil and filter after i noticed the light and that did not fix the issue.

It was 20% off so it ended up being $55 after tax. Not too bad.

I run 2, got them for almost the same price and installed them in an OBA system.  Have been running for over a year now and no issues so far.

I have a cheapo MV50 and it has been great. Its probably the best proven air compressor for the money. I have only seen the high power tanked compressors out perform it in reliability and longevity. I have not heard really anything good from Viar besides fantastic marketing and customer service.

I know Avi has dual Viar's but I filled my Xterra and Rob's in about the same time he filled his and I was running a lower PSI on that trip (15psi). You cant beat $55 for a Viar thats a great price but for $60 the MV50 is a superior compressor dead simple to use in the real world with proven performance.

I never had issues with a single compressor till I went to 34s.  It's amazing how much air they hold compared to a 32.  Viar lists these compressors at 1.47 CFM vs Superflows 2.54.  That said the Viar is a 20 amp draw and the superflow is 30.  Based on my existing wiring and relays I needed to stick around 20amps per circuit.  Also, Viar lists the operating temps up to 153, Superflows lists 140.  I had problems with my previous pumps overheating, I installed a fan as well, but was still worried about overheating.  I got Viars mostly for the name, and hopefully for reliability, so far so good.
