Destination Unknown with Big Josh.
« on: May 11, 2016, 08:13:50 PM »
I was watching on the Travel Channel and there were in search of Genghis Khan Tomb in Mongolia. Interestedly  enough they were using Lexis, Toyota Forerunner and a Toy Land Cruiser  (older version) .
They stock except the Forerunner which had bumpers(steel ) bumpers, baskets and a air force intake.

Lots of back Trails and looks fun!   Not mention mud!

What a Life wheeling for work and exploring! 8)

Check out Camel Trophy if you like old wheeling videos. I love Land Cruisers probably the best 4x4 ever made were the 80 series/LX450 (91-97). They were AWD with a lockable center diff, SFA, full coil suspension, front and rear electric lockers stock, 7 seater, sunroof, 1 Ton axles, bomb proof drive train, massive alternator, tuna can air intake. They are just overbuilt gas guzzling tanks. The only other vehicles that came out of the factory that good off road are the G-Wagens, they also had a waterproof alternator.
Roads? Where we're going, we don't need roads.

I noticed they were running stock tires 265 17" .     They would not of had so much slipping and sliding if they made a better tire and wheel selection. The Lexis really struggle thru the washed trials.

The Land Cruiser just powered thru.

Just think if they had something more technical.

It took me a while but I found the show online, great videos thanks for posting about this program! It looks like they are all running stock Land Cruisers. The LX470 has that extra plastic side step and adjustable air suspension, that probably gave out.

Here is a pic of a 100 series next to a LX470 at full height setting. $10k more get you less ground clearance with the built in plastic steps and an air suspension that fails  :-[

In search of Shangla in Nepal.   Today line up Toyota Land cruisers rock steady.

What's interesting was  Mahindra  crew cab  4 x4. It was very similar to the Suzuki Samurai series. Basic un insulated doors and a very narrow   width.  As usual drama Mah got somewhat lost traction.

But the fun was the narrow mountainous terrain and very primitive roads and not in perfect shape. While ascending the running waterfall that went over the road was freezing up.
