  • Conundrum: Wow, with all the rain I've been in as well as flooding in the X on Fat Tire, I have a new issue. Set light blinking rapidly and goes away after restarting the engine. I did a little research and I guess the cruise actuator can get nasty and seems plausible since I went through a puddle on purpose on the right hand side and that made the set light for cruise start flashing again. I'll check it out after the rain stops. lol Have fun and be safe out there everyone.

GEN2 hubs
« on: September 12, 2016, 08:20:13 AM »
I've had to replace both front hubs on my '07 at 160k miles in the last 6 months. Any other GEN2 owners have/had issues w/ their front hub bearings going bad (not the CV axle)?

I have heard with multiple water crossings they can go bad earlier. I have yet to replace mine.

Pretty common...most go after 100k or sooner, if you do a lot of wheeling and have wheel spacers.

I was told mine was bad, swapped it, and the old one looked fine.

While the hub may look fine, it's the internal bearing which goes bad, and you'd know if it did by the sound emanating from your wheel.. Further wear will cause the wheel speed sensor to fail and then the caliper will seize, the piston squeezing the pads down on the rotor etc..

By look fine, I meant that even under close examination there was no movement within the bearing.  Changed the lower control arm joint too under their recommendation. No wear found in those parts either.  It looks like I am getting a little noise while turning from my axles, but I think it'll be a long time before that is a real issue.

Are you suppose to re-pack the bearings at a certain mileage or just replace? Im at over a 100K, and it seems like this is the mile marker for most PM.
Roads? Where we're going, we don't need roads.

They are completely sealed so once they go you have to replace the entire thing. Including the sensor.

They are fairly reasonable too.  When the bearings go you should feel the truck shift out during a turn on the side of the blown bearing.

I'm at 82K and I need to replace mine. 35s do make them wear quickly!
