CANVAZ 2017 10/14/2017 Planning Thread
« on: November 04, 2016, 01:48:52 PM »
For those of you who don't know, in 2017 AZXC will once again host CANVAZ.  CANVAZ is a tri-state wheeling event, participated in by California, Nevada, and Arizona.  For those who didn't make it the last couple years both California and Nevada held awesome events.  They showed off their state's challenging trails and beautiful camping sites for all to enjoy.  This event typically takes place in October, with the actual weekend selected by the host.  This is a perfect time of year for camping and wheeling in AZ, so this event should be a blast.

This will be the Brainstorming/Planning page.  I would like to come up with a list of locations that people think would work, and a list of people willing to perform trail leader/ tail gunner positions.  This should give us plenty of time to scout out locations.

Thank you in advance for everyone who decides to help plan, scout, lead, or tail any of these events!

List of Trails that have been Pre run:
Moss Wash (red)
Cloride Mines (red)
Cattail Cove (red/blue)
Bison Falls (blue)
Back Road to Desert Bar (blue)

Still need Pre Run:
Pass Canyon
Secret Pass
Green Trails

Need to start planning:
Food Friday night provided by AZXC
Camp Site
# of rig limitations for trails

Well the last couple CANVAZ was work and kids that messed up the schedule. Unless AZXC can create a group babysitter. :)

This sounds tricky. We definitely wanna show off az, but now with two trails limited in sedona, it would be a short day.

I'm thinking crown king for initial start

I think first set the tone for the event then choose a place 2WD friendly or 4WD only or a mix of the two. From what I have seen we have a pretty good mix of everything in the club, I would like to see some stats or a poll on that information.

How many people are 2WD

How many people are 4WD Stock

How Many people are 4WD Lifted 33" or locked

How Many people are 4WD Lifted 35"+ or locked or SAS or TS

I think CK would exclude most 2WD and stockers, but then again I haven't been up there is years.

I think Florence Junction area has the most variety of trials with a centralised camping location. Lots and lots of trail choices for everything from stock to extreme.

Sedona is really nice and scenic for someone who has never seen it.

Tough choice but FJ is the only area I think that would satisfy all needs for every group. I can think of 3 or 5 trails that are all day trips with the bonus of some fun night runs. The limiting factors are weather, it can be monsoon rain, blazing heat, or wild weather shifts from 95* to 50* at night.

Roads? Where we're going, we don't need roads.

Hackberry creek

That's an awesome area I haven't ran that trail in a long time. The drive up there is really scenic once you pass Superior.

I haven't been over there either.  Ideally it would be nice to find a location that is more reasonable for NV and CA people, so keep that in mind too.

Chuy CANVAZ is 4wd only all trails should be 4wd

I think that is a but unfair to the Arizona portion because of the somewhat rarity of 4x4s here. Cali offered an easy trail and a hard trail so that multiple events could cater to the whole community. Leaving out the option to invite 2wd people is poor planning in my opinion, extremely unfair...

If you guys are trying to plan an event, and every suggestion is 4x4, leaving out the option for 2wds or stock 4x4s to join, or if its an issue for every single club event then during the sign up, there should be a question in the joining process that asks if the X is 2wd and just reject those that are. It would make planning a lot easier for yall.

Camping and meet and greet will be 2wd drive friendly but the portion to wheel will be 4x4 only just as in Nevada. FJ / Superior area will be very similiar to the area Nelson Loops we wheeled.

If we make it 2wd friendly on every trail I don't want 4wd guys from stock to modified getting bored on backcountry dirty roads.

I also don't want 2wd vehicles on 4wd trails getting stuck damaged or hurt.

I don't want to invite 2wd vehicles from out of state to make a drive unless they are going to be riding with someone 4wd.
Anybody 2wd wanting to make the drive for the meet and greet and camping are more then welcome...
