  • downs44: Got an 06 that just went through SMOD. Got everything replaced. Now my low oil pressure light is flickering on after the engine warms up and the truck is at idle. Doing some digging on the forums it looks like a common problem is the rear timing cover gallery gasket leaking and causes the symptoms. Looks like a 15 hour or so repair for a $50 part. Was wondering if anyone else has had this issue and any words of advise. To save some dialogue, the oil pressure sensor is about a year old and I changed the oil and filter after i noticed the light and that did not fix the issue.

Hey Everyone,

Right before my wedding and honeymoon last week I went off-roading with some family members while they were in town.

We did Broken Arrow in Sedona. I have done this trail probably about 100 times, and this time it was a lot rougher condition then I have ever seen it, it appeared someone went through after a heavy rainstrom and just destroyed the trail.

Besides the point, my real question: A few times on each run I did (I did the complete run twice), there was two parts where I dug in my rear leafspring shackle connection point if that makes sense. The bottom of the shackle, is where I bottomed out, (2 times going up the Pink Jeep stop rock, the rock they stop going down and jerk the riders, I went up it), I bashed my shackles in the rock, and then twice going down Devils Staircase.

I was curious, what options would I have to increase this clearance? This was like really frustrating, because I took two different routes up the rock face and each time these bashed.

Just curious what others think?

It sounds like your springs are going flat. Probably a slightly stiffer spring pack with more arch like OME. You could probably step up in tire size to 285/75/R16 to gain a little more clearance.
Roads? Where we're going, we don't need roads.

I mean it has 14k on the vehicle, and at 7k I put an add a leaf, so I am not confident it is flattened springs. Maybe SOA is required ;)

SOA or get a custom set of alcans.

Our leaf spring suck. If you offroad they wear out quick and flatten out.

My leaf springs went flat after about 5k miles, and I bought my truck new as well.  I currently have a set of stock leaf springs on my X now, and they are holding up just fine.

SOA is a VERY big commitment...custom driveshaft, custom rear shocks with custom mounts for real shocks, and getting the spring perches welded on also.  Then, you have to bring the front end up to match the rear.

Taller tires will increase the distance between the bottom of the shackle and the ground.

But, there's really no issue of scraping the bottom of your spring shackles on the rocks.  I've scraped mine for the last 10 years without any issues.
