  • PitSnipe (Kyle): Wow, I have not heard of this issue. 15 hour job for a $50 part is nuts. Hopefully someone that knows of this issue will speak up.

  • downs44: Got an 06 that just went through SMOD. Got everything replaced. Now my low oil pressure light is flickering on after the engine warms up and the truck is at idle. Doing some digging on the forums it looks like a common problem is the rear timing cover gallery gasket leaking and causes the symptoms. Looks like a 15 hour or so repair for a $50 part. Was wondering if anyone else has had this issue and any words of advise. To save some dialogue, the oil pressure sensor is about a year old and I changed the oil and filter after i noticed the light and that did not fix the issue.

ShockBlue_Scott's build
« on: December 28, 2016, 11:06:08 AM »
I have owned this Xterra for a little over 4 years now. My wife and I bought it back in 2012 when we were living in Silverdale, WA. Two weeks after buying it we got our first snow storm of the year, we got 5-6" of snow over night. 4wd was really nice and made getting around easy.

Over time I have done a few modifications to the Xterra. The biggest modification I was the PML (poor man lift). I used sway away torsion bars. I have had 3 sets of tires on the Xterra, the original Yokohama's that came with it when we bought the rig (I loved them), General Grabber AT2 (loved those even more), and currently we have the Cooper Discoverer STT Pro (absolutely love them. The Coopers are aggressive and can be loud, but have kept me out of some sticky situations.

As far as future plans (looking for part donations  :P ) I plan on doing the alignment again, adding Bilsteins, fixing leaks, and redo the brakes.

Here are some pictures for your viewing pleasure. These pictures were taken after my LED light bar was stolen and before I replaced it.

I'd like that, as you can tell where I live there is nothing but asphalt and we all know how floor jacks, jack stands love sinking in that crap.

There is a person selling some yellow bilsteins on craigslist, but he wants 300 for all four which is bad considering they are NIB but I could order from a dealer for that price.

I have heard nothing but good things from the 5100  Bilsteins.
You might have to measure out the actual length and get longer ones.
I would do some research on where to get them like
4x4parts.com
Or a shock warehouse.

Pinchel (Rob) can probably pitch in.

Nice rig, glad to have another 1st gen aboard! I also have the Cooper STT but I got mine just before they released the Pro version.b Let me know if you have any questions about your rig, mine is always getting work done because I always wait till that one critical moment. Haha..

Oh, and is your rig still registered for California then?

I have ordered things from 4x4parts and they take forever to ship. Someone needs to open something similar here on the west coast.

Yeah I am going to register it as soon as I get the title from the bank. I procrastinate just like you do and fix it when it is broke not preemptive about stuff like that.

What do you think this thing is worth if I was to sell it? I am looking at a 1999 Toyota Land Cruiser. The Xterra has a few leaks, it appears to be a power steering leak, will confirm that, brakes, shocks and has 236K on her. Most of those miles are all freeway.

Okay, I was actually thinking less then that. But I will entertain offers as I am trying to find a decent Land Cruiser.

Maybe less, the leaks are probably normal for the 1st gen and just require maintenance, but people will likely ask about the upkeep in regards to price.

I'd be willing to take 2500-3000

How did you blacken the hood?  My roof lights glare really bad off my white hood - been thinking about making the hood black or adding a shield under the lights.
2015 Pro-4X.  Crumpled skid plates.  Sasa Sliders. ARB front bumper+10K winch.  OME front suspension. ALCAN rear springs +400# +3".  Front bumper camera & live display.  Supreme Suspension Spacers. Molle panels.

I used Plasti Cote but might redo it but this time around I will use actual paint.

I am also thinking of repainting the X in flat dark earth, or tactical taupe.
