FR41 - Table Mesa Road East to FR24 2/20 9:00AM
« on: February 13, 2010, 10:51:01 PM »
So, I was thinking of hitting up FR41 from I-17 and Table Mesa Road.  This run requires a State Trust Land Permit.

Getting there:  From the intersection of I-17 and Table Mesa Rd, head EAST on Table Mesa Rd (FR41).  This road runs east until it meets up with FR24 (Cave Creek Rd).  The trail crosses New River several times and there is some moderate elevation change along the way.  Last time through there, it was mostly 2WD friendly with only a few spots where choosing the proper line was important.

Going north on FR24 will bring you to Bloddy Basin Road (FR269).  The Sheep's Bridge is approx. 10 miles east of the intersection of FR24/FR269.  I-17 is ??? 15-20 miles ?? west of the intersection of FR269/FR24.

Going south on FR24 will bring you to the Seven Springs Campground.  Countinuing south, the road will become paved.  This is the way back to civilization  (on Cave Creek Rd).

Here is a good writeup of the FR41 route:
http://www.blue-fish.biz/page_FR41_New_River_Canyon.htm

Please note that the description is a little dated, but it for the most part accurately describes the trail (although I have been through there since last summer).  The recent rains could have re-arranged some parts of the trail (where the trail crosses New River).

Who is up for making this run next Saturday  (2/20)?  Meet at the gas station at Carefree Highway and I-17 at 9:00 AM

EDIT: added meeting spot and time

Sounds like fun Ted. I will talk to you about it on Friday. We are making some changes this week at work so I will be a long one for me. I will have to see how I feel at the end of it.

Well, as much as I wanted to go and give the Montero some more off road time, I will be busy building some rock sliders, have fun everyone. Take pichers.

That's cool Ty.  I'm sure you can catch up with us.  We will be going FR41 to FR24, and I plan on going north on FR24 for FR269 (Bloody Basin Rd).  From there, I'm heading east to Sheep's Bridge (about 10 miles or so east) at the Verde River.

Had a good time today.  FR41 is washed out at the first river crossing.  We turned back and did some offroading on the west side of Table Mesa.  On the west side, the Agua Fria River is crossable - as long as you have 4x4 - LOL!!!

Here is the group shot that I took just after the river crossing:

Took the 2nd Gen out with one other Frontier, and some X-Terra's this weekend.  It was a wet weekend.

Line-up along the trail:

The trail we intended to take - storms made a pretty big rock garden that never use to be there (notice the stranded Jeep)

The Bog Hog:

Onix (wally)

Aaron (Penski61) crossing the river

Ty

Aaron (Penski61) climbing a dirt/mud hill

Ted (AZ-Ted) crossing the river

Brenda (DZRT GRL) crossing the river

Josh (Eminex81) crossing the river

Joe (08WhiteX) crossing the river

Wally (Onix) Crossing the river

Group Picture

2wd S10 that impressively made it across the river

Stuck 2wd Tundra (he was in there for a half an hour if not more)

Finally got pulled out by the Bog Hog

Brenda getting her mud fix
