Any electrical genius's out there?
« on: April 15, 2017, 02:26:05 PM »
I have several strengths but vehicle electrical is definitely not amongst them.  I ordered a shrockworks rear bumper with cb antenna spot, but not sure how wire one of those bad boys up.

I'm also going to have to figure out how to wire up a tow harness (not equipped), rigid 40" lightbar, flushmount rear lights, etc all with rocker switches and not a clue where to start.  Any info would be beyond helpful.

Thanks in advance!

I would start with an auxiliary fuse box. That way your not wiring so many accessories to your battery.

The cb is easy. Most of us tap into a cig lighter element. It really depends on where you want to mount it. Three wires total for the cb setup. Power and ground for the CB and the. The coax that runs from the cb to the antenna.

I don't know much about the tow harness as I have also been looking into it. All 2nd gens Xs are prewired to the rear. Nissan sells a kit to make it all work.

Light bars are easy as they are only two wires.

Rocker switches are nice and easy to wire in.
With wiring ya got to thi nk about it as a loop. It starts with the power and ends with the ground.

40" light bar is going to draw too much current for a simple switch - the switch will eventually fail (fuse shut) - my son has gone through two switches.  Get a relay kit off Amazon for $11 --> https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0155W7EDS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1.  The relay kit uses a switch on your dash to close a relay that can carry the current of a big light bar.

If you need some help with it, bring it to a mod day.

Disclaimer: I'm not an electrical genius, but I was an electrician for 20 years.

HAHA, I'll take 20 years of experience any day.  Good to know, I have so many parts coming, so much work to do and just need to work out plan of attack taking into account how long some of these parts will take to arrive (because apparently that is a thing)

Thanks again, I'll be sure to post some pics along the way.

George is correct, I pick up relays cheap on ebay and use a toyota flood light switch.  It looks perfectly stock which I like.  I use bulk wire rather than buying a kit, either way works.
