  • downs44: Got an 06 that just went through SMOD. Got everything replaced. Now my low oil pressure light is flickering on after the engine warms up and the truck is at idle. Doing some digging on the forums it looks like a common problem is the rear timing cover gallery gasket leaking and causes the symptoms. Looks like a 15 hour or so repair for a $50 part. Was wondering if anyone else has had this issue and any words of advise. To save some dialogue, the oil pressure sensor is about a year old and I changed the oil and filter after i noticed the light and that did not fix the issue.

Back Road to Crown King/Box Canyon
« on: August 16, 2017, 09:49:45 PM »
My wife and I are taking a camping/off road trip for my golden birthday (30 on the 30th). We're thinking of hitting the back way to Crown King on the 31st, camping somewhere around there that night, then making our way to Box Canyon on the 1st.

Any tips/suggestions? Anyone planning on being out in the area that weekend?

The two Box Canyons I know of are along the Hassayampa River in Wickenburg (off Rincon Rd) and the one on the way to Martinez Mine in Florence.. Neither is really close or accessible to Crown King. As you make your way up the back road to CK, just be wary of atv/utv traffic as it has become somewhat of a dirt track freeway now that it's mostly graded. LOTS of inexperienced (and usually drunk) idiots up there lately tooling around.
Have fun!  :)

I was asking the same question, but Dbax replied first.  Which box canyon?

CK was getting tore up over the last 2 years.  Im not sure how much worse this years monsoons have changed it. If its raining it could be challenging and fun!
The Hassayampa River "Box Canyon" is an easy trail, its just has a lot of sand. Be careful  where you park. It will swallow a truck!

I might be able to head up Crown King with you on the Thursday and camp that night.

Lots of places to camp at before you hit the Crown King trail. Once on the trail there really is no place to camp off the trail till you get to Crown King.

I've been wanting to camp in CK and then do the Old Senator Hwy which is a Forrest rd that takes you to Prescott.

Also, BLM is going to be scheduling a "Show Me Ride" soon, if you can wait that will be a good time to go too.

I totally missed that you inquired about Box Canyon. If you really wanted to run Box Canyon and Crown King it can be done.

I would recommend running Box Canyon on day one. Camp in either Wickenburg or near Lake Plesant. Then run Crown King the second day.
