In a topic that has probably been beaten almost as much as "What size tire can I fit..." I have to ask about sway bars.

As I see it, sway bars keep the truck from heaving over or rolling in case of a sharp turn or rapid evasive maneuver.  From a risk perspective, I take turns slow (yeah - I'm "that guy") and have had to take rapid evasive maneuvers only once, so highway risks seem small and removing them should be OK.

In my mind, sway bars prevent the truck from setting a wheel (foot?) down to mitigate the risk of rolling on the trail.  I've come really close to rolling three times, and it seems to me removing the sway bars will help stop the truck from picking up angular momentum which would lead to rolling over.

So, in summary, sway bars are great on the road, but dangerous on the trail.  Removing sway bars has more benefits than drawbacks.

Thoughts?  Comments?  Am I over-analyzing?

I completely agree with you.
I removed my rear sway bar 4 years ago and you'd be amazed that you can not tell a difference.
My front sway bar came off in October of 2015. It was at CANVAZ where I broke one of the front sway bar end links. After that I took the sway bar off and never looked back. I admit that it is a little sketchy at first, but the more you drive it the more comfortable you become.
Yes, evasive maneuvers are hard to control and pot holes suck doing anything over 20 mph.
It is all worth it when you are off road though.

My wife says that I drive like an old man. I tell her that my Xterra is not a race truck. Thats what I have the mustang for. Once the X is lifted and is weighted down with armor it becomes a brick on wheels. No reason to drive it like a race car. Sure the lean around turns can be fun and always gets odd reactions from other motorists, but youd be amazed just quickly you get used to it and learn to compensate without even thinking about it.

For last week, it was quicker to replace the missing bolt.  And there was a time where I was Two-Wheeling Tuesday :)   For CANVAZ, they're coming off.
